Is Craig a scientific experiment gone wrong?

I was watching this late night on TV and started to doze off near the last 10 minutes, but I distinctly remember in the operating room scene before Mandy is killed, several disfigured embryos in jars against the wall and a picture of a man in a lab coat....presumably a doctor. He had what looked like a young Craig with him in the picture in a later scene as well.

Would someone like to take a "stab" at explaining?

I thought of this story as a social commentary of aborted fetuses flushed into the sewers. In the film they make the clinic a literal abortion clinic (hence the fetuses in the jars) to I guess make it clearer to the viewer that this film wanted to make some point about abortion or disposal of aborted babies. I wished there was more of an explanation as I didn't totally understand the young Craig in the photo with the doctor. Perhaps he was an aborted/flushed fetus that survived? Craig is obviously disfigured but if you look closely at his skin, it looks burned (like when fetuses are aborted using chemicals). Obviously if this is what the director was going for, it was quite a steretch and the film ended up being more of a gore fest than anything else.

Thanks for trying to clear that up for me, scarylibrary.

What you said about Craig being an unsuccessful abortion makes sense, but why keep those other "aborted" fetuses in the jars?

I hate when a movie leaves so many loose ends that you can't make sense of it.

I agree impressive_girl, there were certainly flaws with this film. Which ever way you try and make sense of Craig (who is is, where he came from, etc.) there will be inconsistencies with the other parts of the film.

I always assumed it was an underground (literal) abortion clinic from back when it was illegal. Abortion was only made legal in 1967. I agree with the poster above that fetuses were simply flushed down the toilet. It hints at this right at the start when the sewage guys discuss condoms etc flushed down the toilet and "anything that fits".

Oh yes! AHS is very sick, disturbing and violent. The current season, Hotel, is, in my opinion, the sickest, freakiest, best season of them all!!
