THE BEST RUSSIAN MOVIE EVER

I recommend to anyone who likes Tarantino, Spike Lee and some Cohen Brothers' stuff for their films much closer to reality then others to see this great movie.

This is definitely neither Tarkovsky nor Sakurov as one could expect from Russia with film. And you know what? I'm glad. I'm glad that there are peolple in Russia who HAVE brains but not using them to be like Tarkovsky or Paradjanov. May be these directors where good at their times, but NOW all what they've done is just an old stuff.

Anyway... Want to see modern contemporary naturalistic(but not boring)film from Russia? GO SEE THIS ONE.

I recommend that you stop over-rating an ill-shot Russian gangster flick which in Russia is loved and respected mainly by petty criminals and uneducated fools (who form 7/8th of the population of my country). Russia (like the rest of the world) is overflowed by the amount of criminal based entertainment. The problem is that no-one is willing to bother to educate the masses. Why bother when you can make a fast buck filming dumb-a$$ gangster 'epics'. I am not a fan of Tarkovsky yet at least I recognize he tried (and succeeded?) to pull off something more interesting then simply cattering to the masses. You say that people who made this flick have brains? They do, but unfortunately they use them for is to make some money of an already lobotomized nation. In my opinion a GOOD modern contemporary naturalistic film made by Russians is yet to appear.

Interesting opinion...
Russians, along with the most of former Soviet population have received some of the best education in the world. Your comments are a bit ridiculous, because unfortunately American children are deprived of basic sciences and language programs in schools. You really should travel more. Go to Russia, tour Central Asia; you'll find the most wonderful and wise people there. This film does have its flaws, however it is true to reality and can not be used as an excuse to attack one of the oldest and greatest nations with such hate and intolerance.

reply

Apparently most of the comments are from people , who don't understand the main idea of this great film ... that's pitty for them ...

You're a joker! This movie sucks! I really mean it. Those who haven't watched it, save those precious 90ish minutes of your lives, it's just not worth it, you might as well watch 'Hogan knows best' instead :)) People like it only because they glorify crime in post-soviets, just take a look at the reviews, they come from russian speaking dudes. And I bet all votes are from Russia as well :)) No beef

PS. here's a good russian film: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0382631/

I cant believe that person who saw Tarkoivsky stuff and likes Cohen brothers movies, can make board with title BEST RUSSIAN MOVIE EVER dedicated to this ultimate crap. I really dont, what about *beep* ASSA? Im sure youv seen it. People still watching Brilliantovaja ruka 40 years since it was made, do you really think that somebody will remember Bumer in next 10 years?

reply

Well, not alot of movies made today will be remembered in 10 years actually. May it be a russian movie or an american.
Bumer was a good flick, wasnt the best ive seen but definetly worth watching.
And btw, for you saying that there are only russian people that think this movie is good I have a question. How did you understand the movie? I thought that there were no subtitles available for Bumer.
Oh well, thats my oppinion.

As a russian speaking individual I can assure anybody this movie is not very good. I personaly found the way they talk in the movie hillarious...You guys have to watch antibumer wich is the same movie recut and redubbed way too funny...Vam brigada naverno toze ponravilos...

Bumer is one of the best, probably the best Russian movie that I ever saw. plus, the music is super, I wonder who's performing?

reply

I think this movie cops a lot of slack for the subject matter and culture it presents. However, looking past that I think it's incredibly well put together. The scenes are well structured and filmed. Plus, it's quite entertaining, so while it may not be the best it's certainly far from being the worst.

America! *beep* yeah!

To danucky:

Shnur (Sergey Shnurov) is the main author of OST.

Totally Agree! A good movie at all aspects. Very realistic.. Chars acting and talking exactly like real people do, reallife situations including gas station and corrupt cops episodes, also deep philosophical message about fate is sent to viewer. All movies in Russia about gangsters/cops? Hell! Why not? The superpower is ruled by kgb/cop mafia and all sort of robbers and manipulators! And commmoners like to act similary to rulers but depending on their own knowledge and power! Not masterpiece but real classic! Personally I dont want to see movies with gentle, clever, fair, smiling characters only on every channel. Remember those Stalin/Khruschev era movies where eveyone looks like he eats ecstasy on breakfasts, and at same time men eating each other on the real streets!! C`mon!

I understand russian and I can say yust one word that it's great. Film was very interesting and I sugest to watch it eaven you don't understand russian you can watch it with subtitles.

reply

always on the look out for good russian cinema! i will take your opinion to heart and watch this film!

Even great mafia epics like Goodfellas doesn't seem to be like 10x better than this, I mean the way how Scorcese displayed reality of mobsters by killing each other, betray and swearing, which actually is one of greatest mob film of all time. So this film is better than most of american crap what has been making these days, just look at those flawed gangster flicks like Rigtheous Kill where legendary Pacino and De Niro couldn't save it... And here just respected mob characters actors did a better job than Hollywood greats...

Great movie. Nowadays gray morality is nonexistent in Russian cinema, probably in part due to people bashing Bumer and other similar films for "glorifying crime". This movie should've kickstarted a new wave of Russian cinema. Unfortunately, things didn't work out, and that new wave never came. In the year 2016 Bumer is still best Russian film ever made.
