The Beef council must be sooooo mad........

Two dead cows in a 2 hour movie? One technically murdered, because it was put down for injesting anti-freeze, which i wish would've been brought up by ONE of the characters and dealt with. Who trusts a steak after that one? :P

I kept sitting there waiting for Tom's character to slap the "spiderweb" cap off that girl, his own daughter, for killing one of his livestock. Isn't harming animals one of the signs that a child may grow up to be a violent offender, or serial killer? I also found it confusing that she had so much compassion for the calf born at the end of the movie, but not enough feeling for the suffering she caused when she poisoned the other one. As an animal lover, I would've enjoyed to see Sir Tom break off one of those size 13's in her a$$, and then throw her in a ring with Dr. Phil.

(I KNOW IT'S JUST A MOVIE)

Anyway, Tom was good, if not a little nebulous at times with his portrayal, and Crewson did a nice turn as the overbearing ex (who gets to bed Selleck AGAIN, lucky turd!) As a selleck fan, I would like to see it on DVD. But if it hasn't found the shelves after 2 years, it probably won't.

There were a lot of times in that movie when Tom should have given her a good smack right upside the head

I JUST gave 12 Mile Road one-and-a-half stars in anger, disappointed in Dulcie's portrayer. I agree what you think should happen, but I just wish someone like Mischa Barton or Rachel McAdams would give Maggie Grace an EXTREME makeover and kick whoever did this to Maggie in an unmentionable place. That'll make 'em remember the year 1994. But kudos to Tom Selleck for keeping that violent, gothic idiot played by Maggie Grace in line--literally, and figuratively speaking. This was the WORST Maggie Grace performance I EVER saw. Can't get enough of Maggie Grace? My advice: Wait for Season 2 of Lost or the cool thriller The Fog, also starring Tom Welling from "Smallville". I HAVE said before that Maggie Grace can do better than this. I didn't know Dulcie killed animals, too. The EPA needs to crack down on Maggie Grace the next time she plays dark characters like this again to avoid 40+ health code violations. :-)

I think her compassion for the calf after what she did with the anti-freeze was to show growth on her part.

Still...it kept hanging in the back of my mind as a loose thread, and I wondered throughout the movie when would it be dealt with. It was a distraction.

And yeah...I wanted someone to kick her @ss but good.

Seriously, feeding the cow anti-freeze shows how majorly messed up she was. I didn't believe she could change so much for the better after living on a farm for a few months. She needed professional help.

Tomorrow's just your future yesterday!

I wanted to see somebody beat the daughter to death 30 seconds after she first appeared on screen. I despise kids that are even remotely like that. I always have, ever since I can remember. When they screw up and get hurt or killed, drug overdose, car wreck, wrists slit, whatever, I just think "great!". To MGs credit, her character made watching any scene she was in like pulling teeth.

Any Beef Council wouldn't care, but PETA would be furious! I grew up on a beef farm, and dead animals happen. Several years ago a group of our cattle got into some poison on the farm. We poured lots of mineral oil into them to get the poison out. I can't remember how many we lost, but I don't think it was many. Steaks aren't made from poisoned animals, so don't worry. You have more to worry about with all the growth hormones in the cattle these days.

But yeah, that girl was a total brat. Dad was way to easy on her. My dad would have gotten out the belt if I had been anything at all like her. I've never known a farmer to put up with crap like that. But then again, she had been living with her mom so he probably didn't know how to deal with her. He also probably didn't want her getting made at him if he disciplined her.

And yes, it's just a movie!

A child may always grow up to be violent or serial killer. But I doubt cruelty to animals when one is young/distraught is any indication. What makes you think so?
