Does anybody know if Joan Allen can qualify for an oscar nomination for this movie. I'm curious because althoguh I just saw the movie now, the date of the movie says "2004". I wonder if that will make it too early for her to qualify for the 2006 oscars?

I don't know about the Oscar issue, but I agree that Allen was definitely Oscar-worthy (as she also was for Pleasantville, The Contender, and The Upside of Anger). Of course, this almost definitely means she won't even be nominated. If she does get nominated, she'll lose to Hilary Swank for whatever Swank does this year.

The serious acting chops required for the poetry should have gotten these people some attention, however I have to agree that The Oscars are more a popularity contest than anything else. Million Dollar Baby? Please. It was like a made for Lifetime clichefest. Swank was competent but couldn't compare to Annette Bening in Being Julia.
