A healthy Joan Allen

It was so nice to see Joan Allen not look so painfully thin. She's an amazing actor - one of my favorites - but I'm often uncomfortable watching her because she's so damn skinny.

However, in this movie, she had a few pounds on her (still thin, though) and looked so beautiful and healthy.

Of course, that didn't last long because she was thinner than ever in "Upside of Anger". I wish she could see how much better she looks in "Yes".

...and that's all I have to say about that.

Couldn't agree more, and the same to so many beautiful women who are spoiling their natural good looks and health by trying to loose too much weight. I don't like fat women, but being a hetrosexual man, women appeal to me who look like they are not starving to death. And isn't being healthy an attractive thing? I know a healthy appearence is appealing to women so why isn't also appealing to more men? After all, it indicates survival, and wouldn't you want that in a mate? I wonder what other men see in an anorexic waif that looks like she would crumple if you held her too tight. Maybe some men feel they can't succeed with a woman unless she is somehow too week to resist.

i agree totally. you would think more men would appreciate a healthy looking woman and not some lollipop waif who's clothes drape off of. yuck.

joan allen is so tall and graceful looking, she looked great in this film. not too skinny but i wouldnt say voluptuous or curvy by any means. still good though.

Her amazing lover spoke of the skinny Western prototype of woman as unattractive, too. Perhaps you caught that.

Actually, he doesn't say unattractive.

He says "Too thin. Too fit. Not womanly."

Then he goes on to list those other characteristics about Joan Allen, like her pale skin and her blue eyes, which are not supposed to be attractive to him--because they do are not characteristics of the traditional Arab woman, and instead represents the quintessence of whiteness, white privelege, American imperialism--but he's enormously attracted to, despite himself.

He's saying those things to try to convince himself and her that he is not attracted to her and finds her repugnant. But he doesn't really.
