im sorry but did this film excite anyone else as much as it excited me? It touched me in such a way. The way "he" made "she" so happy. This film made me feel every emotion under the sun. I laughed, i cried, i smiled..... words arent enough. "he" was such a beautiful strong character i thought.
I also loved it. I received the DVD as a gift and had no idea what to expect. I was greatly moved and enchanted by this film and am so happy to have it in my collection. You're right about no words being enough, I can't think of a single way to describe the way this film has touched me. It's now at the top of my favourites list.
Sorry, I am not trying to insult anyone, but I thought this was unbelieveably stupid. I just watched this last night. The iambic pentameter conceit just DOES NOT WORK and hence is like fingernails on a blackboard throughout the whole damn movie. I am a big Joan Allen fan and I agree the "atmospherics" of this were beautiful, but all I can say is, nice try. I admire Sally Potter for her willingness to try different things, but just because something is different doesn't mean it is successful.
This movie was such a pleasant surprise! I actually found the iambic pentameter an interesting choice. Most of the time, it isn't really noticeable, a testament to Potter's skill, but even when it does seem artificial it's reflective of the fact that this is a film with a definitive point of view. Instead of trying to trick the audience into believing it is witnessing something objective, Potter acknowledges her own biases.
I thought the iambic pantameter was wonderful. It gave it its own flavor, took it from being a very nice romantic drama to a movie with the feeling of a modern day Shakespearean...well, romantic drama. I adored it.
