is he being a writer/author believable?

he doesn't seem to carry himself like someone who has a very high literacy level, or a view on the world that would be especially interesting to others. i really got the impression he'd be like a blue collar worker type.

I believe it. He was so inspired by that one night that he spent years writing about it, probably with the help of an editor. I mean, look at Richard Linklater, the director. He also looks pretty blue collar and he make such beautiful movies. Why not Jesse?

I found him to be of slightly above average intelligence. I guess we have no idea whether or not his book is actually any good. There are plenty of average writers. I had no problem in believing him to be a writer.

Anyone can be(come) a writer, so him being a writer/author in the film is believable enough. However, him being a best-selling writer/author is far from believable. Him becoming a best-selling author after publishing his FIRST book in which he romanticizes a one-night-stand with a stranger in Venice is incredibly unrealistic! In fact, I find it to be the most unrealistic plot of all times!

reply

of all times? come now, really?

You are of course entitled to your opinion, just like anyone else, but you can't think of a single plot in any movie ever that is more unrealistic?

Or was it meant as hyperbole? :)

Unrealistic you say? E. L. James became a best-selling author with her first book. Never say never.

Or Stephenie Meyers or J.K. Rowling.

There are plenty of authors who have had best-sellers with their very first book.

I think he could be a writer based on 'sunset'in. From this, before before midnight came out I thought he would be kind of a one hit wonder, tho. I mean, a novel of before sunrise would be pretty popular. But at the start when he is talking about his other ideas they seem a bit...rubbish. I hate hate hate it in before midnight that he's a susccessful author. Loads of films / TV shows do this. It really, annoys me because it is so unbelievable.
For instance, the affair. everything in that show got stupid after his book got massive

reply

I didn't get that impression. He seemed quite intelligent to me.

And who said every author has to be an intellectual.
