Don't doubt. Before Midnight is crap, best avoided, if you want to preserve the beauty of the first two.

"But I have infinite tenderness for you. I always will. My whole life."

reply

no, you can't avoid life, not everything is butterflies and rainbows

*beep* BM is a piece of crap. If I want reality I'll look at everyday life. Isn't this why we look at movies?

reply

No, we watch movies for all angles, BM was decent, good luck

I watch movies to learn something on a deeper level, and like all good art, this illuminates the reality of life.
Movies aren't an "escape" for everyone.

One thing good about BM is that Julie Delpy gets naked.

"Ah ha ha ha ha ha ha (chaching) Whoops!"

I would recommend 2 days in paris instead of BM. BM is pretentious, the characters are awful and dislikeable and the conversation is unbelievable

2 days in paris is like BM in that it is a more realistic look at a long term couple, it's a lot better film than BM though

Before Midnight was awful. Incredibly disappointing. Celine is too dislikable. By the end of the movie I basically hated her. They could've shown the difficulty and travails of a relationship without making Celine so utterly dislikable.

I agree. This one left a bitter taste in your mouth and somewhat soured what transpired in the first two. I don't mind real life conflict and that's why I liked the second one the best but this one was just too over the top negative. I honestly don't feel you would be missing anything by not watching the third film but hey it's just a movie right? So if you really are that curious, why not? And formulate your own opinion of it.

~What if this is as good as it gets?!~

Before Midnight is terrible. They never should've made it. Ruins the charm of the first two films.

Don't you think a long term relationship (what the audience wanted to see) is not about "charm?" After several years together, the dynamic between people changes. These movies strive for moments of authenticity above all else. I think charm is too easy and the Before series always went for more than that.

Yes, Celine was a little "too" aggravating at times, but I admire the leap they took. They're going for reality, not fantasy. People always want fantasy because it's an escape from their own reality. Linklater's films have never been about "fantasy." His films are the opposite: life's moments. And mostly, life and relationships are not so charming or convenient.
