Waltz - Island of Rain?

I would not think of USA when someone says island of rain, sounds more like the United Kingdom to me. So maybe she really does replace the name of the guy there.

I don't know for sure that she meant that line literally (for some geographical location). It could simply be figurative for Ethan's character. Maybe "island of rain" could mean his "island of sadness" (or just being away from her). I don't know, I think it's kind of an open lyric.

She didn't know he lived in Manhattan when she supposedly wrote the song so who knows what she meant
