Commentary track

Has any of you out there listened to the commentary track for the film on the DVD between the director and film critic Chuck Stephens? It's funny to listen to Stephens trying to interpret the images from the film and trying to get an explanation from AW, but there is one particular moment which had be burst out laughing and rewinding.

At approximately 79 minutes into the film (during the second half in the jungle,) just after the soldier finds the naked wanderer and wrestles him to the ground, we hear Stephens proudly remarking that this scene is his second (?) favorite sex scene in all of modern thai cinema to which AW quizzicaly retorts "Is this a sex scene?" The way he reacts to the remark and the uncomfortable exchange that follows is priceless. Well, anyway, I thought it was funny.

As much as I find this movie extremely beautiful and lyrical, I find that people try to read way too much into his. AW is renowned for making extremely personal films and I'm quite certain that some of the symbolism and logic is not meant to be understood in any classical way. Possibly no one else but the director understands how everything is pieced together (if even him!).
