This movie stunk...

If the writer of this film ever reads this you may want to go back and watch Election over again to see how this sort of thing is done properly... you are trying too hard...

I just didnt like how they framed a poor innocent teacher I felt so bad and Kinberly is a real Bitch she is so vile.

reply

"Innocent" teacher? He clearly /was/ a deviant, from making his wife wear that skirt and read that essay to tricking Brittany into stripping onstage, and then insisting that she continue.

reply

How exactly did he trick her into stripping onstage? I mean, she's got a brain. Something would tell you not to strip... Or at least me.

reply

Well, dontcha know? At convenient times, the female gender can dismiss all responsibility for anything. Fact of the matter is the teacher didn't do anything, regardless of what he fantasized about.

reply

The original poster of this comment obviously wasn't smart enough to get all the social commentary and satire. This movie was great!

reply

The fact that his superior, the headmaster, has to ask him to behave when disciplining a student suggests that his behaviour was inappropriate; as does the fact that he not only silently watches his underage student strip but then orders her to keep on when she gets upset and stops.

Sounds like you're abdicating a lot of the responsibility men have. None of them in this movie were any better morally than the female characters.

reply

The people in this thread are more one dimensional then the characters in the movie.

reply

Lol. True.

How can anyone be more one dimensional?

reply

he was not a deviant for "making his wife wear that skirt". tons of men have schoolgirl fantasies, it's not deviancy. also, he didn't force brittany to start masturbating on stage. she did that because that's what she did at home, alone in her room. she could've started belching or picking her nose or playing air guitar to Van Halen for all anyone knew, but she didn't. and once she got started, yes he should've stopped her. it's obvious he had some sort of perverse fetish for these girls, but the thing is he didn't do anything. he didn't act inappropriately, at least not to the extent that they accused him.

Completely agree with you. Again, Rachel Wood is a horrid actress. Nothing like the actresses like Jodie Foster or Winona Ryder (The best in Hollywood and the brightest) and these two actresses NEVER accepted roles or dialogue to insult or degrade minorities. Rachel Wood is a simpleton and this film is GARBARGE!!!!!

reply

I understand not liking a movie.. There are movies i dont like but the actress in this movies name is Evan Rachel Wood so if your gonna bother to insult someone at least get their name right its really not that hard..

Oh yea and Winona Ryder is good but not to the level of Jodie Foster..

You really need to get out more..

reply

Evan rachel wood is my fav actress!!! omg and this movie was sooo good ! i was so surprised by the ending when i found out how evil kimberly actually was! except it is true that the teacher was a bit of a pervert!! but it was still a good movie!!

reply

o ya and all of u who think evan rachel wood is a bad actress she actually isnt! you just hate her cuz of the role she plays and u know she is a good actress! i mean if she was so bad then how come she got nominated for so many awards for different movies including her movie thirteen which is the best movie ever! and she won 3 awards for that and was nominated for like 9 so maybe u should think next time u say something like "shes a bad actress"

reply

I'm a minority and this statement insulted me. I'm a guy (a straight guy on top of it) and sometimes I feel like I'm the only person who sees a problem with the double standard towards women. Great actors like DeNiro, Pacino, Nicholson, Irons, Liotta, Malkovich, and others have spoken several lines of dialog that degrade minorites because they were playing CHARACTERS that thought that way or said those things.

Goddamn, do people not get that actors play characters that may not in any way relate to the true feelings/thoughts of the actor/actress playing them?

I'm cool with ERW, I'm not her biggest fan or anything, but for Christsakes she's one of the few young actresses out there doing interesting roles and not going the Lindsay Lohan route of playing in bad cookie-cutter Disney movies! (although I hated The Missing)

I love when someone says something "stinks" and offers zero evidence. By the way, I loved it.

What are you talking about? Evan Rachel Wood plays difficult and dramatic roles with complex characters. OK so she plays a bitch in this movie it doesn't mean that she is a racist bitch in real life - its called acting. So what if Evan wants to take on a challenge and do something interesting rather than fluffy, sweet and innocent characters like a lot of other teen actors chose to play - it just shows that she has the intellegnce and enough knowledge of human beings to be able to play someone, who is nothing like her, realistically. One of the reasons people love acting is because you get to become someone who is nothing like you. It's fun to play psychos and to explore soeone else's mind. This movie is not insuling or degrading to minorities - some of the charcters in it are but they are not shown in a possitive light and do not end up well.

I really do not understand why people go on message boards to trash a movie! If it was such a waste of your time when you watched it, why waste more time on it's imdb page??
Some people can be real idiots.

reply

your so right and this movie was great!!

reply

What *I* don't understand is why people go to messageboards, enter threads they know will be offensive to them, and then bitch about the original poster using their right to free speech to voice disapproval over a movie they saw. Why only visit a messageboard when you only want to read with people who agree with you? An imdb messageboard should welcome ALL points-of-view that pertain to the movie, not just the faction that you agree with.

The original poster never posted constructive arguments against the movie, but still, no reason to bitch at someone and call their opinion a waste of time simply because it's different than yours. Don't give me the tired old, "Well, he won't change any minds!" Who cares? The same people would probably rarely change their minds when hearing arguments in real life, too, but that doesn't mean an entertaining discussion cannot come about it.

By the way, I also loved it. Evan Rachel Wood is a great actress, and really shined in this, even if it was a bit over-the-top at times. Ron Livingston was also great.

I would just like to say that I thought that the whole "Mr. Anderson getting Britney to 'strip' onstage" is questionable ... He said 'something' you would do in the privacy of your own room. I wouldn't have started touching myself in front of the Drama club. Instead i would have done something gross, disgusting, and way more personal - that you would never, ever, see anyone do knowingly in public - I would have picked my nose. Thta was a totally viable option for Britany to do - he never said for her to do anything sexual/strip/undress. If she had actually though about what the hell he was asking her to do she would have come up with that in no time - I half expected her to do something in that nature first, only to then be told by Andersen to undress. Now that would have been a solid point in her case. And it would have shut the pervert up. (But that really wouldnt be sticking to the nature of the movie, now would it? Even so .. )

reply

what is so creepy about schoolgirl fetishes? all guys have them duh

I can't be near you, the light just radiates.

reply

Not all guys do, but the difference for the teacher was that he acted on it, and that dealing with schoolgirls was his job. It's the difference between a guy thinking nurses are hot, and being a nurse or doctor who sexually harrasses his co-workers.

reply

I fail to see how the teacher acted on his impulses with the students. He got his wife to dress up a schoolgirl which is different. He asked a girl to act out a personal moment and she took that in a sexual connotation. The guy wasn't a saint but he wasn't a sinner either.

Getting his wife to dress as a schoolgirl is miles away from sexually harrassing a student. The guy worked with what were cast as young sexually aware girls and to most men they are sexually attractive, working with them and being surrounded by young nubile flesh would drive a saint to distraction so he acted out some harmless fantasies with his wife.

By the way I am female and still take this tack.

reply

Plus she realised what she was doing the instant she touched her genitals before he would have even had time to realise what she was doing and stop her. For all he knew she could have been unbuttoning her shirt loosely so she could sing like Madonna or something else that's stupid, it was entirely her choice to masturbate on stage and no one could know what she was doing before she got far enough to realise and walk off.

reply

AGREED- the movie was awful, suprising given the cast

Do guys like "the thing"?
They like it better than no thing.
