US Theatrical/DVD Release? or, Why God Why (don't I speak French)?
I happened to be in Paris in December and spoke not a word of French (nor have I since learned any), and decided I would rather flounder through a good French movie than watch a crap American movie, a la “Bridget Jones: Edge of Reason,” with French subtitles. Well, I lucked out. “Narco” transcended the boundaries of language and was definitely one of the best movies I saw all of last year. I was so excited to come back to the states and see what in the hell I was laughing at (the situations I could understand, of course, but when the French audience and my French-speaking sister would laugh during a dialogue, I felt the burning resentment of my linguistic deficiency), but “Narco” was never released in the US, nor can I find any news that would seem to suggest it will be in the future. And no DVD release either. I can’t understand it, because the film was such a perfect blend of offbeat comedy and action. And Jean-Claude Van Damme. There’s definitely always an American audience for strange and hilariously thrilling French films. I'm having my sister send me a copy of the French DVD (to be released 4 July 2005) when she goes back to Paris and I hope it has English subtitles.
If anybody out there has any information on whether or not “Narco” will ever get a US release or whether or not the French DVD has English subtitles, I am desirous of your knowledge.
Dear God, bring us the Narco we so desperately desire and so rightfully deserve!
