Abbie Cornish

Abbie Cornish, who plays Heidi, was 22 years old when she made this movie. She was playing a girl of 15. Cornish looks all of her 22 years -- and more -- in some scenes. Sorry, had a hard time suspending disbelief.

This is, when all is said and done, just another 'coming of age' movie. Just what we need, another 'coming of age' movie. But, since most movie-goers these days are under 25, this is the kind of film that will continue to be made -- over and over again.

I think she looked 17 or 18, it didn't bother me she looked older than 15.

reply

Yeah, 17 / 18 sounds about right. I didn't realise her character was supposed to be 15 until I looked at the imdb-page.

Was it mentioned at some point in the movie ?

the film took 7 years to make, which is why I thought she looked older in some parts than others. There were points in time in the movie where she definitely could have passed for 15.

Don't say it's just a movie. If I thought it was just a movie, I wouldn't have an imdb account.

Your logic escapes me. Because of a single movie that I deemed just another 'coming of age' movie (I still believe this), you wouldn't have an IMDb account? I don't get it.

Watch. It will happen again.

"the film took 7 years to make" ya, I don't think you should take that to mean that they were filming over a period of seven years.

I don't know the character is unbelievable as some have said, but I agree that Cornish doesn't look like a young teenager (or at least any kind of ORDINARY young teenager).

It's kind of a catch-22. A movie like this would be kind of creepy if you had a more age-appreciate actress having all these sex scenes. On the other hand though, casting a 22-year-old beauty like Cornish in a role like this tends to kind of glamorize teenage sex. What guy wouldn't want to have sex with THIS "teenager"?

reply

Most Hollywood films glamorize teen sex---there's actually nothing glamorous about any of the sex in this film--in fact, it's downright sad and very unglamorous (because its not a Hollywood film, that's why.) And the actress ( whom I happen to like, having sen her in even better films like CANDY and STOP-LOSS) actually about 16 in this pic. Also, FYI, you do have some teens who look older or younger than their actual ages.
