hmmmm...... mixed feelings *spoilers*

while far from a classic, i don't think the movie was nearly as bad as I was expecting, but one thing kinda bugged me.

tim roth's character is described as abusive and certainly the night she left him he was certainly that, but was it just me or did anyone else think that he was not really all that bad up until that tipping point???

i mean i felt incredibly sorry for him. he was obviously sick and in need of help, and while I would never condone his behaviour towards his family right before he died, they did not really seem to try and help him at all... i mean it started small and built up until he was out of control... he came back from the dead to ask for forgiveness, but i think he was owed an apology as well... i mean your wedding vows are for sickness and health and all that you know.

unless there was a lot that they did not show us, i did not think he was abusive towards his family, but rather to himself, in an obvious cry for freaking help.

thoughts??

oh and yeah, scary porn dubbed french dude really pissed me off.. seriously wtf?

I totally agree with you, they built his character up to be an abusive husband so my first thoughts were "oh he hits and shoves his wife and kids around." But then I started watching and I was like they call this abusive? He trashes some furniture and breaks a few windows and suddenly that's abusive. It could happen to anyone in a drunken rage. And the fact that she didn't get him in to detox or didn't try to get him help. What was she trying to do kill him? I mean in a sense yes you're supposed to take care of yourself but your family is supposed to be there to help you out. And the french dude can't act worth a crap.

Your the wrong guy, in the wrong place, at the wrong time.--- Story of my life.
