i have one thing to thank this movie for!

...it will stop me watching bad movies.

I'm a bit of a sucker for watching bad films, i'm easy to please and will usually find some plus points from the worst movies. There's been times when i think 'why do i bother', but i keep finding myself going back. Not any more!

I bought this movie for a £1 in the local budget shop, now people will say 'what did you expect for a £1', but i've picked up some great movies for that amount recently, dvd's are just becoming that cheap. Seeing the cast, i thought id picked up a bargain.

Now the movie itself is just shocking. I watched this after watching Unbreakable for the first time, so to go from a movie with such a unique storyline to something so generic and flat probably made it seem even worse.

I'll be honest it held my attention for about 30mins, intriguing little setup and whatever but after that it just kinda drifted into nothigness. There's nothing worse than seeing a movie that just doesn't make you feel anything, not one character in this movie made me want to care for them, no one made me laugh, no one made me smile, no one made me do anything. Tim Roth was painfully wasted in a role that didn't really make sense. The premise leads to believe that he was an evil man, when in flashback form he seemed like a damaged individual who fell off the wagon trying to help people. It was never clear why McDowell hated him so much?

Roth probably strolled in, filmed all his parts in an hour and *beep* off with his cheque (the movie doesn't even appear in his wikipedia filmography).

I'd be interested to know if anyone's read the book this was adapted from? I'd actually be interested in reading it to see just how much they ballsed it up.

Now don't get me wrong, there are worse films that this. There are some which you go into knowing they are gonna be so bad, and half the time that's why they are fun to watch. But with this, you have all the ingredients for something good and i think that's what makes it suck even more.

Thanks to this i'll be more careful in future with what i spend my time watching, i don't think i could care another souless experience like this one.

thanks!
