I am wondering ......

The Japanese animation industry is so superb. American animation industry looks lame in comparison. Think about the picture quality of Incredible or Madagascar. It looks like the difference between professional and amateur. How did American movie companies dare to release those works and why those works sold well? :)

I love anime but I also love Shrek, Finding Nemo, Monster Inc. etc. They're funny because I understand their jokes and have great voiceacting. They're in CGI and while anime is just drawing mostly. American Industry aim for funny and family movies so little kids and other people can enjoy them and while having a decent plot along with it.

Anime seems to be surpress because notice how they're only in selected cities and doesn't have many sponsers or commercials.

For your information, The Place Promised in Our Early Days is in CGI. Star Wars' are in CGI. The Lord of the Rings' are in CGI. Everything is in CGI.

anime is terrific, but Pixar has done SOME good stuff (namely: The Incredibles). But overall, anime is better.

Actually, the animation in this particular film was mostly done on computers anyway.

Using computers to make animation that looks hand-drawn may seem like a cheap trick, but the good thing is that computer-generated anime is much more environmentally friendly than doing it by hand (those hand-painted cels make great collectors' items, but computers save a tree).

just a different style. Neither is better or wrose than the other as they can both be done well or poorly.

it all comes down to prefrence

Was talking about this with a friend the other day, i just think we dont take the medium seriously. We in the west pretty much invented the computer industry and pushed the idea of CGI in the eighties but now only seem to use it for cutesy fluffy mindless pieces of animation. Although i love Pixars stuff and on a purely technical level its stunning, its all mostly frivolous. Wheras the Japanese have embraced CGI and all forms of animation and put a lot of real emotion into it. We are capable but not interested in animation as a primary medium of expression.

I'd like to see more North American animations geared towards adults.

Today, I feel the word "animation" in North America is synonymous with "childish".

Most every feature length animated film that is released on a large scale is the same old kiddy fare. I'm especially disappointed by the fact that there have been so many "CGI talking animal" films in the last year. I feel like we haven't really evolved past Bugs Bunny and Mickey Mouse. I'm not saying movies like Shrek and The Incredibles and Toy Story were bad films, they were good, but none of them were really worth watching twice or thrice.
North American animation needs to grow up and get out of the box.

Thats because American animation isn't gear towards adults. So serious storylines are saved for the live action movies.Anime on the other hand is Japan's main entertainment industry that everyone watches.
