DVD??

Is this available on Region 1 DVD for Canada and the US? I would love to see it!

reply

There's not even a region 2 DVD. I hopelessly try to find this TV movie everywehre but no luck. It's incredible because it has been made by a famuous british director.

oh, I badly want to see this... looks like there's no chance of seeing it in america, and it also looks like i can't find any clips or trailers of it online, which strikes me as being strange, considering the success of the relatively similar "The Queen".

I heard an interview with Stephen Frears on NPR in which he referred to The Deal as his first film in a trilogy about British politics. I very much wanted to see it before part two, The Queen, and share your dismay about its baffling unavailability. I was willing to finally join Netflix if they had it; they don't.

Then last night on Charlie Rose, Helen Mirren said she jumped at the opportunity to do The Queen because of The Deal's impact on her. Both she and Frears feel that we wouldn't be in Iraq if not for the events highlighted by The Deal. Is it true that the film was shown only once on British TV, and nowhere since?

I know this doesn't really help but it is showing on HBO in November, November 8th I think.

Ah HA! For what it's worth, it looks like the Weinstein Co will be releasing it this coming year under its imprint "Genius Products," according to the Wikipedia article and, more importantly, from this press release: http://www.geniusproducts.com/PressRelease.aspx?releaseid=234

I can't figure out exactly when they're planning to do this, but I would think 2008.

WINNER! After much persistence, my dvd of The Deal came in this week from Amazon... it got re-released with a different distributor in Region 1. It should now be available.

i finally got a copy on e-bay. it's an amazing film and was well worth the wait. in the extras frears says he's planning a third part about blair's relationship with clinton. should be good!

I got my copy through Amazon Marketplace a couple of months ago. :) I gave it 4 out of 5 stars -- didn't love it as much as "The Queen," but it's a good story and I thought David Morrissey was especially outstanding as Gordon Brown.

I really enjoyed that interview with Frears on the DVD, and I'll definitely be looking forward to the Clinton-Blair project (titled "The Special Relationship," and scheduled to shoot this summer with Dennis Quaid as Bill).
