If you'd ask me which book should be filmed as soon as possible, I'd say the "trilogy of the 100 year war". Those books got everything to make it (a) fantastic movie(s). It's got war, love, great charachters (like Bertrand du Guesclin), a great dose of thrilling action and of course most of it has actually happened.
Hm, personally I would love to see the filming of her Children of Mother Earth Trilogy. Such an interesting and epic story, it would make an awesome movie.
I'd also like to see a movie made of the book Hasse Simonsdochter. That (with Crusade In Jeans) is really my favorite book. And after that they might as well make a film of the Children of Mother Earth Trilogy (is that the right translation?).
I prefer a film about the Children of Mother Earth Triology as well. These are my favourite books by Thea Beckman, along with crusade in jeans and hasse simonsdochter.
Children of Mother Earth will absolutely make a beautiful movie, I can already see the Lord-of-the-ring like country-side shots. Although Hasse Simonsdochter is my favorite book of TB.
ps the trilogy is about the 100-year war, about 4 century's before the 80-year war...
"I'm gonna rip out your eyes and piss on your dead skull!!! You've *beep* with the wrong marine!!!"
One can only hope. So many of her books lend themselves for a movie adaptation :) Though I wouldn't mind seeing Niemand houd mij tegen by Evert Hartman as movie as well. It certainly has potential in my opinion.
when is Hasse Simonsdochter planned? Anywhere in the nearby future? I hope so. Do they have a screenplay yet, a director, producers? How far are they with this movie?
Too much questions, they've only just agreed that the movie shall be made into a movie. There is no further information as far as I know. It isn't even in pre-production... We won't be seeing another Thea Beckman movie before 2009 is my guess.
Not so sure... they changed a lot about Kruistocht in spijkerbroek... I wonder what she would have thought about it if she was still alive today. I read in the newspaper that she flat out refused an earlier version that included the setting being in America and Dolf being a homeless criminal or something. Most disturbing idea that they perhaps would have changed the story to that.
My favourite Thea Beckman book has always been Hasse Simonsdochter, but I must say I wouldn't mind seeing The Children of Mother Earth on the big screen.
I always loved Saartje Tadema, but im not sure that would make a great film. I agree with whoever said the trilogy about the 80 year war though, those books are amazing and have everything in them you need for an interesting movie.
I think a trilogy like that would be better than a Children of Mother Earth trilogy or this Hasse Simonsdochter (this was one of my least favorite books of Thea Beckman).
The 100 years war trilogy always makes me dream about a Lord Of The Rings-like movie trilogy; it sure has the story for it: humour, romance, drama, big battles...
I agree with that. And if they are going to make more movies, i hope they stick more to the story then they did with Kruistocht. I like the book better.
Haven't seen this movie yet, but I wanna... I'd love to see Saartje Tadema as well, it's a really good book and it could be filmed completely. Except they might leave out the periods of insanity XD The best part of the book is when Saartje ends up in the inn and tells Auke: 'you left something last time'. Auke hopefully asks 'my heart?' and Saartje says 'no, a book' XD Still love it
Never read the Children of Mother Earth trilogy nor Hasse Simonsdochter (feel a bit sorry about that now XD) but the Marie Claire trilogy (about the 100 years war between France and England -it is mentioned here before) would also make a great movie. Better yet, a trilogy.
I loved those books, about the 100 year war. At the time that i read it, i was on a holiday in Bretagne, so i visited a lot of the places that are mentioned in the book. It was really cool reading about a fight at a gate in Dinan and being in that exact place 5 min. later. Also in the churches there, you can see the same story being told in the windows. Anyway, i agree those books would make a great trilogy.
I think you mean the trilogy of the Hundred Year War? It is set in France. The Eighty Year War took place in what are now The Netherlands, and is called "De Opstand" these days.
