Eva Green argues AGAINST having a female 007; insist the part should always be given to a man

Eva continued: 'Women can play different types of characters, be in action movies and be superheroes, but James Bond should always be a man and not be Jane Bond.

'It doesn't make sense for him to be a woman.': The actress, who played Vesper Lynd alongside Daniel Craig in Casino Royale, said she doesn't believe a woman should replace her co-star"

Yeah, James Bond should always be a white British man. However, I don't mind if they make movies with a female 007 agent. It would be just like a female M, I guess.

reply

Would be better if they could think up their own stuff instead of riding on others success. Look at the disaster that is the upcoming Batwoman series.

reply

Well if the ones making the movie are the rights holder of 007 franchise I think it's not riding on others success. More like expanding your own success. Similar to the producers of Fast & Furious making the Hobbs & Shaw movie. Or the producers of The Mummy franchise making The Scorpion King movie.

007 is just a code. It can be anyone, not always James Bond, eventhough to this date James Bond is the only agent 007. In fact, in the novel You Only Live Twice, Bond was transferred into another branch and given the number 7777.

Making James Bond not James Bond is silly, but making 007 not James Bond is within the premise of the original story. Or just make a 008 movie, or 011, or 070, it doesn't matter. As long as it's still "in universe" with Bond, I'd like to see it.

Why not introduce a female "00" into a 007 film and then make a spinoff about her character?

Why can't there be several movies with 005,6,3, etc? It is a team of people, but we have never seen them, so all kinds of people can be used as the characters.

reply

People can go watch TND and DAD if they want to see that. I don't know why American audiences are so obsessed with even the most insignificant characters having their own spinoff shows. Bond is about Bond. All of the other characters are minor and easily replaceable, which is also why the casting of the new Q and Moneypenny with big stars who demand more screen time has been so horrific.

reply

I don't need a 003 movie, but there's been so much crap about having the character be black, a woman, etc and it's stupid. That's a racist example of "tokenism" where you stick a black character, etc in there just to say you did it.

What should be done is to make new related characters. Bond is Bond, but there's no reason why a good 003 character who is different couldn't be created.

reply

Agreed. Obviously there's no requirement that 00 agents be male, and I'd love to see a female 00 agent introduced as a colleague (or better, a rival), but Bond himself is the very embodiment of a certain male fantasy. Being male - VERY male - is his reason for existence!

That said, I don't insist that he be a white male. Many non-white families have lived in Britain for generations now, long enough for their money to be called "old" and for their children to acquire that public school polish. The ability to portray the right sort of cool and class is not limited to actors of one race.

And Batman can be any color, too.

I disagree that these characters be messed with.

A well done character is a simulation of a real person. People get to know the and understand them. That is what's so popular about them.

I will never forget being in the audience the opening night for Superman Returns. It was obviously a crowd of fans and when Superman used his xray vision to spy on Lois in her house, the audience gave a collective gasp. I was shocked too.

Superman would never ever do that because he's too ethical to spy on a loved one like that.

We all "know" Superman. We know what he looks like, sounds like, and what he will likely do. It's like he's real and someone you know.

People who really like these characters have a relationship with them and you can't change the character. That's why all the changes made to comic book characters, making them into women, etc fail.
