10th anniversary of "Casino Royale" - November 17th

How has the film held up after 10 years?

Still one of Daniel Craig's best Bond movies and one of the best Bond movies in general.

Since the first time I saw Casino Royale in theater with my friend Steve, it quickly shot up to the top tier of my favorite James Bond films.

It's up there with From Russia With Love, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, etc.

I came out of the theater feeling so cool!

It is one of my favorite films of the last decade, new Millennium, and even all time - definitely in my Top 500, if not Top 100.

I've become saddened seeing how the writers and filmmakers screwed Daniel Craig over, with each of his Bond films nearly becoming worse and worse.

The James Bond franchise and Daniel Craig deserved so much better, and they had such a promising turn with Casino Royale.

This was the first Bond film I watched on cinemas. Eva Green looked beautiful there.

Casino royale was his best, the first bond film I liked with no gadgets. I loved the fact they brought a new bond because he just got the 00 status, but like you said the writers just slipped Craig into the typical bond in qos and ruined it for Craig and the fans

Yes, this movie opened in US theaters on Friday, November 17, 2006, and last month had its tenth anniversary. I was aware of that and had planned to start a thread on here about it then, but it just kept slipping my mind when I visited the library in November. And I know I'm two and a half weeks late in doing it now, but better late than never.

I have been a very big James Bond fan since the late seventies, especially of Roger Moore and his movies, which are my favorite movies of all time. I also like the Sean Connery ones alot, and the other three's movies are okay. But Roger Moore's James Bond is also by far my cinematic hero and favorite ficticious character of all time, and has been since the early eighties when I first became a big movie fan. And when this movie came out ten years ago I had actually never heard of Daniel Craig, but did see that he was born on March 2, 1968, which made him almost the exact same age as me (I was born on March 5, 1968). And I was glad they were getting a new Bond and definitly planned to see and was looking foward to his movie. But his age did cause me to wonder how I would look at James Bond in this movie, would he still be my cinematic hero and be held in awe, or would I look at him as more of a peer, such as a childhood friend, high school or college classmate, or possible roommate or co worker. I then saw Casino Royale in theaters around ten times that November and December, and liked it alot, thought Daniel Craig was very good in the role, and the character of James Bond did remain as he always had been for me, and I did not view him any differently after all.

I then saw Daniel Craig's other three movies as James Bond in subsequent years and also liked them too (though not as good as this movie) and afterwards hoped he would remain in the role (I wonder if he will return now). And the character of James Bond has remained the same as always for me. As for how this movie has held up after ten years, I really can't say, but this month, partly because of this anniversary, I plan to get it from netflix and watch it on my dvd player, and am really looking foward to that, as I have not seen it since late 2006. But happy tenth anniversary to Casino Royale and Daniel Craig's James Bond.

This has aged well and is as fresh as ever.

After 10 years, this movie still holds up. Daniel Craig put any reservations about his performance to rest.

reply

I agree. Ten years later it's still one of the best Bond flicks- and Craig's best.
