Why didn't they just call it Triumph des Willens and have done with it?

I mean, seriously, are we supposed to lap this up. How "amazing" is America...? Do we need a film painting a rosy apple pie of a film?

I swear, if Poland had oil, who know what the good ol' boys would have done in 1939.

"Inspired and inspiring" is what Jim Svejda called America's Heart and Soul. "Inspiring" is a keyword from the bumf. This is a movie all about the spirit - the Geist - of the nation. When a nation talks too much about its Geist, while expanding its occupation of foreign soil, it sets the alarm bells ringing.

There are two differences between this and Triumph of the Will.

A)Truimph of the Will was undoubtedly better propaganda for a far worse cause.
B) That movie was sponsored by Hitler and his government. This is just Disney on its own, choosing to make a film about how much they love America.

reply

Because Triumph of the Will was propaganda for such a bad cause. But this isn't it shows how great America is. You should be greatful you live here.

The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return.

reply

"Greatful"? Seriously, why is it that ignorant white trash is always the sector of our population that is the most patriotic, no matter how blindly or against all reason? Dude, learn to write first, then read a little; at least try to educate yourself before you put such faith in a film produced by a company whose main interests are being protected by our "patriotic" President's sibling.

"while expanding its occupation of foreign soil"? do you know anything? if we wanted more "foreign soil" or more oil, couldn't we have "invaded" mexico for billions cheaper? um the answer would be yes. couldn't we have just taken it from iraq when we were already there during the gulf war? we're allies with kuwait, why don't we take their oil? they'd be a lot easier to invade and they'd never see it coming. if we were all about claiming more land would we have granted the iraqi government control of its country? i guess my underlying point is um... you're completely wrong.

reply

Your right about it being much cheaper to take over Mexico for their oil, or much better still drill in Alaska.

I think Bush and his admin were p$ssed at Russia and France etc for exploiting "Oil for food", which by the way were the ones against attacking Iraq. The WMD claim was just a big lie.

As for granting control, installing a puppet regime is granting control to whom?

The movie, it's a tourist documentary nothing more.

reply

How quickly would that autonomy would evaporate if they used it to, say, make oil deals with someone besides us? Say the French? Or the Germans?

Oh, wait, whose oil IS it??

WE own that oil. We killed tens of thousands of civilians to get it. We own the whole country. They're "free" to pick out the curtains for their jail cells. PERIOD. And if they don't like it, they can face down 6 billion dollars worth of US tanks painted red, white and blue.

Same goes for the citizens under the corrupt Saudi royal family. They can like the corruption we're paying for, or die.

Rah, rah USA. In soft focus.

Anyone who hates us just hates freedom.

Of course, it looks strangely like they WANT freedom.

But just ignore that.

They hate freedom. Just keep telling yourself they hate freedom.

It will make you feel better. Like this glossy, gooey film.

Hi everyone, a few things:

Louis Schwartzberg was just at my school hosting a screening of this film. His parents were Holocaust survivors, which is one of the things that inspired him to make this film -- all he wanted to do was show examples of Americans overcoming adversity and I think he did it quite well.

Secondly, Disney was and is ONLY the distributor of this film. Schwartzberg made it completely independently and Disney agreed to distribute it after the film was complete. It was independently funded and made so Disney in no way affected it as a film.

This post is a little late, but a question that seems to loom in my mind is, why do people complain alot? It seems to me that Republicans have jobs so they don't have time to complain and yet Democrats seem to be in the streets pretty much wasting their time complaining and not working for a change. I just finished watching the movie "In America and anyone who complains that America is crap, is either one, completely ignorant of all the opportunities, is lazy, or pesimistic to the point of welfare.

I'm just glad I'm optmistic enough to survive.

I thought fahrenheit 911 was going for that title, at least if you want to look at it, from a propaganda viewpoint. I havent seen the movie America's Heart and Soul jet. But if this one has a positive message about America, than this movie is true and honest about the American spirit.

Poland?1939 ....without America, Europe would have been divided between communists and facists(look at Triumph... if you don't know what i mean).

Yes we need a film that shows how amazing America is, in every way!!
Because America is just numbero uno!!

I didn't really enjoy this film all that much. I found it quite boring, though I saw it at a time when I really should have been at home recuperating from a very long double shift.

That said, I appreciate Louis Schwartzberg, just as I appreciate all patriots, the way I appreciate people of faith and people who volunteer and people who run into burning buildings to rescue other people. I appreciate people who stand up against the majority for what they believe is right, even if I think they're wrong.

What I hate are misanthropes and nihilists. I strongly believe in the value of a vocal opposition. America is not the president, or the majority party in Congress. America is the people on both sides of the aisle who believe in making it a better place. Disagree with President Cheney, but don't make the mistake of confusing him with America. Loving your country doesn't mean agreeing with its present course. America, like any nation, needs its Cubs fans, who will love it no matter what, warts and all.

My hat goes off to Louis Schwartzberg for loving this country. The moment people like him go away, so does America.

Maybe I'll rent this movie and give it another shake.

Triumph is more like Disney's other film, Nazi Supermen Are Our Superiors.
