The Point?

I like the show but Im lost on the point or goal. They talk about the person who wins the money needs to show tolerance and a change but they booted Bonnie because she was totally enlightened lol that they did not think they could do anymore for her...but then in the end it seemed when people got kicked off, they got kicked off for personal reasons. Things some of thr alts didnt like. Liek that cold medicine bit...was the guy even doin that? Or did they all just pick a victim.

God, please save me from your followers!

I think you picked up on the main flaw in the concept. The idea I suppose is that the alts were supposed to be more evolved or wise or something and in a position to judge the emotional or spiritual growth of the guests. But come on. The alts has no pearls of wisdom to share and some of them were intolerant of the opinions and beliefs of the guests.

Fencesitterfool, To say the least....

I too enjoyed the show alot and find myself watching it again (June 7,2008) since it's on Hula.com

http://www.hulu.com/videos/search?query=Mad+Mad+House

Speaking as an "Alt" myself (And I'm 44 years old, not a teenager)....

Being of alternative beliefs, the "Alt's" should actually have had more tolerance than they did...

You would have thought that being on television and having an audience, the "Alt's" would have shown the average viewer that they actually knew their craft and would have proven to the contrary many misconceptions that people have.. Along with this, it seems as if whatever the "guests/contestants" told them, they believed with barely a doubt... I'm sorry but even if they didn't show the private comments by these contestants, you could see that Erik and Noel were just playing the game and doing things to win the prize....

That being said, I was shocked that Fiona and Tashia claim to be Wiccan and Voodoo priestess', respectively.. They didn't seem to be aware of this (paragraph above)... ALL Priests, Priestess', Believer's of the magick realms "tend" to say that they are psychic to others, claiming that their guides/ansestors/ ect tell them "The Truth" and that they "Know"... With this, I need to also state that anyone watching this show could see that during the "Banishing" (Ritual/Rite) - where the "Ordinarys" wrote on paper their fears, stated them verbally, and wished to release them (as the paper burned) - That Kelly was trying for an Oscar, and was faking all that melodramatic bullsh** during the "release" of the hold her fears had on her...

Now I do believe that the "concept" of the show was for spiritual growth, etc like Facesitterfool posted... The problem was that there were many reasons as to why they would eliminate contestants, be it growth, not being able to progress, not being able to tolerate the "Alt's" beliefs, ect...

All-In-All, I really think that the basic format was dedicated in that vein, but not knowing who the contesants would be, and what would occur during the filming of the show, I think that the "Alt's" got lost... To Top This Off, I believe that these "Alt's" felt as if they were in a new frontier, and that they actually didn't know how to continue the premise.... Not to mention, that it seemed to actually open up the "Alt's" to their spiritual growth, realizing that they had some of the same "blocks" as a human typically does (if they chose to acknowledge this or not)...

** A Side Note **
What really pissed me off, was that Fiona (who says she is a Wiccan Priestess) actually did what the "Wiccan Rede" (The sum of the belief system Wiccans adhere to) states NOT to do, which is to "Harm None".... No, I am not talking physically, but mentally.. She played head games with afew of them (most notably Erik)... In the "Wiccan Rede" and belief system, there is no right do this, no matter if it was to find out information or what have you.... On top of this, the Rede emphasises the "Three-Fold Law" which is that whatever you send out, you receive in kind, three-fold (some Wiccans believe that it actually is a Ten-Fold Law instead of Three-Fold)...

I think the point was that straights who usually rule and judge everyone else were put in the position of being judged by folks they usually consider "freaks" (as kelly called them). It was about turn around. I don't think the ALTS were supposed to be that "tolerant" towards straight guests. The guests went on the show presumably to learn about different lifestyles and spiritual paths. If they weren't willing to loosen-up, they didn't need to be there.

The point of the show was they kicked out the less than attractive contestants to get the better looking ones naked again next episode. I can't be the only one who picked up on that.
