Shelly

Does anyone here feel annoyed w. Shelly? Personally I can't stand her; there's just something really phoney about her, especially the scene where Reese was readin' the letters, and Shelly came in and started citing the "chronology" of the writing course and blah blah blah.
I know she suffered too, but that character just bugs me very much.

I fully agree with you.

Thank God I'm not the only one :)

ugh yes. . .I hate her as a character, and also the actress's delivery. It's just sort of stilted. When I saw this movie I very much identified with Deschanel's character, and I couldn't stand how nosy and self-righteous Shelly was. Still can't.

I think on the surface Shelly comes across as annoying.

But I personally couldn't bring myself to hate her. I didn't like her nearly as much as Zooey's character, but the scene where Don (Ed Harris) keeps dropping his fork and Shelly was trying to get him to eat, showed me that she really cares for her friends. I was starting to get annoyed with her until I saw that scene, and then she didn't bother me so much after that.

No I liked her very much. She went through very sad thing. In the contrary - I was annoyed how Rees was bitchy to her the first half of the movie.

She was a bit of an annoyance at first but ended up fitting quite nicely into the masterful blend of characters. She wasn't hard to look at either.

I think she was kinf of a bi*ch for the sole reason she tried acting like she belonged in the house more than Reese.

Keep in mind that all of the main characters are emotionally damaged.

She may have been trying to strike up a conversation, but it did come across as annoying. That character was a little too presumtuous for my liking.
