the medias bias in this case

i have two words for them: erika pratt

wheres HER tv movie of the week? why wasn't SHE invited to the "amber alert" bill signing to shake hands with the president on national tv? wheres HER a&e tv special? i guess little black girls from philly who are kidnapped and terrorized arent considered as "newsworthy" or "photogenic" as rich, "nice-looking" blondes.. in all honesty, if anyone should be hailed as "courageous", its erika. i mean, its not like her captors promised her a trip to disneyland if she resisted. she was only SEVEN years old and had the common sense to CHEW through the duct tape wrapped around her face, break through a window and escape when the coast was clear. i agree with the person who commented on the medias bias toward this case. i get so sick of hearing the media constantly refer to elizabeth smarts physical appearance also. since when does being a "pretty blonde teen" from utah add to ones "crediblity" in the media? what do her LOOKS have to do with whether or not shes being HONEST and upfront? not a daggone thing. they need to quit with that. folks always want to criticize minorities who bring this subject up, but since the media always seems to reaffirm this issue every time something like this happens, the complaints are justified. the media can indeed be subliminally racist by being selective when they want to be, which reflects what kind of society we are living in.

I found the Erika Pratt story very captivating. What a brave little girl. Unfortunately, she was given less coverage in the news media ("...and in other news...").

And I think I was visiting Brenham, TX when I heard about Elizabeth being found. I remember they analyzed it to death on CNN for a couple of days afterward.

So perhaps the media was biased...

We got movie sign!

I have three words for you: GET OVER IT.

YOU weren't the one to be kidnapped and terrorized, so don't act like you know what you're talking about. If anyone has a right to complain, it's the girl who actually WAS kidnapped and terrorized.

And you know what? This isn't a racial issue. Why does everyone have to make an issue out of everything? OK, do you have a problem with people getting a lot of media attention when it can save their lives? Elizabeth Smart was saved because of all of the media attention that she got. Without all of that media attention, the cops who found her wouldn't have recignized her because she would have been old news. And you know what, just because someone is rich and white doesn't automatically mean that they will get a lot of media attention. There was a woman in Tennesee a few years ago who was kidnapped for more than 48 hours and SHE hardly got any media attention. She was a rich, caucasion female, and if it wasn't for the police report about the kidnapper, who was an escaped convict, she probably wouldn't have gotten any.

And maybe the Pratt girl wasn't invited to shake hands with the president on TV because HER dad didn't get the Amber Alert started. Did you ever think of that insyead of jumping to racial conclusions? No, because then we would not be having this discussion.

Elizabeth Smart was missing for almost an entire year. The other girl was missing for what? 24 hours? I am not saying that make sher any less important, but the Smart Story was bigger because she had been missing longer and because of the circumstances of her abduction. This wasn't a normal kidnapping. She wasn't kidnapped by an crazy loon off the street; her abductors weren't exactly the typical case for everyone at the FBI headquarters.

And if that's not good enough for you, and you think only rich, white girls get attention when they're kidnapped, I have a name for you: Margaret Hill.

Apparently only photogenic white females go missing. The news media's bias in covering missing person cases is surprisingly blatant. Usually they bend over backward to be politically correct.

Apparently about 100 stranger abductions occur each year in the U.S., or one every few days. I don't know how the news media decide which ones to publicize, but you can bet it's going to be a photogenic white female. If you're not all three of those things, they're not interested.
