A letter to the teachers of this school.

Yes, it was all nice and dandy what this small community did and all. because if we dont try to remember those horrible stories, they will happen again. oh wait a min. It is actually happening right now. it is happening in Iraq, by your OWN leaders of your OWN country. It is okay to remember something that happened 70 years ago but DO NOT fail to see what is going on TODAY.

Wake up. 600,000 innocent IRAQI people have died in result of this unjustified war based on lies by your leader. They only died because they are Iraqies. they had nothing to do with anything. They are just like me and you and those Jews who were killed in Holocaust. THEY ARE ALL INNOCENT.

I am sure if you brought those people to your school to tell their horrible stories, it will make you cry as much as the Holocaust survivors did. but there is a difference, we cannot go back in time and stop the Holocaust, But we can change something that is going on RIGHT NOW and stop this brutal and aggressive war.

Instead of all these efforts that you guys are doing, which is all good, why dont you teach your students about what your leaders are doing around the world today?

Thank you,

I think you missed the point of the exercise.

The Holocaust Project was started in order to teach what happens when prejudices brought about by fear run unchecked. The teachers of Whitwell felt that this was a true need for their community, which is very small and insulated. What came out of this project went beyond anyone's expectations, which is why the story is so amazing. And I for one have little doubt that these children will grow up and accomplish something great because of the extraordinary lessons that the Holocaust Project taught them. It's a lesson we should all take to heart and apply to the world around us, as the late 20th and early 21st century continues to show us how unchecked hatred and fear can destroy innocent lives, i.e. Darfur, the al-Anfal campaign against the Kurds by Saddam Hussein, Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge, etc etc etc.

The Paperclip Project inspired another class....

So your negative comments aren't needed. Also the Paperclip Project began in 1998 - BEFORE the war in Iraq.
