Since seeing this, I too have become a Topher fan. He is a great actor... and he doesn't look too bad with this shirt off. A little "wirey", but not bad. Enjoy this film. I did.

Cheers!

I'm so tempted to call you, Ivory Soap, 9944100PercentPure. :)

So did the film remain book true regarding F. Scott's tattoos?

reply

I haven't read the book. And I don't recall anything about tattoos in P.S. ??? Please explain!

Cheers!

reply

Hi 9944100PercentPure,

In the book F. Scott's chest and other areas of his body have tattoos. There are supposed to be some tats of dragons on his chest.

reply

Nope. He's shirtless a couple of times in the film... No visible tats that I can remember.

Cheers!

reply

That stinks. I'm an unpublished writer and I would hate it if someone drastically changed my character's looks for the sake of the film.

Well you couldn't miss the dragons they are supposed to be huge.

What happened to Dylan Kidd wanting to remain book true? F. Scott is supposed to be an artist. Gah.

ETA: Okay...does he still make breakfast for Louise?

No wonder this film got lukewarm reviews from some critics.

Yet, there's a part of me, that hopes you are just pulling our legs, 9944100PercentPure.

I read the novel "P.S." by Helen Schulman, and to be honest, I don't remember anything about F. Scott having tatoos. Although, it has been awhile since I read the novel.

In either case, I wouldn't think him not having the tatoos would effect the actual story. Hopefully the rest of the film stays true to the novel. Having read it, I'm looking forward to seeing the film.

reply

Hi avalonsmitty.

Well he did. That was one of the many things that we dicussed in our now defunct "P.S." book club.

True. But it makes Kidd a bit of a sell-out, since I had a quote from him awhile back where he said he was going to remain book true and wasn't going to change the story.

I may not be a published writer, but my characters are important to me, and I couldn't have them being altered like that. It takes away from the character a bit. I think this is why the old saying "The book is always better than the movie" was invented. :)

Now, let's see if "Missy" mentions her two kids or will that be left out too? Now it's my turn to forget the book, I can't remember if the kids were actually shown or just mentioned?

I haven't read it since October of last year.

reply

the kids are indeed mentioned in the film, but I don't think you should be that upset.. it doesn't stay true to the book? The author of the book co-wrote the screenplay so I think she stayed true to her own version, no?

Metatron: You people! If there isn't a movie about it, it's not worth knowing about, is it?

reply

I talked to a friend that saw P.S. with me. He doesn't remember any tattoos either... Sorry CarolStarr! And I hate to break it to you... But I don't remember there being any breakfast either. Ok, I'll just stop now. I don't want to ruin anymore of the film for you! Just wait until you see and hopefully you won't be disappointed. Like I said before, I haven't read the book, but I enjoyed the movie very much.

Also, I got tickets to see a taping of That 70's Show on the 24th! I feel like a little girl with a crush. Heehee! It would be awesome to be able to speak with Topher about P.S. ... But I doubt that will happen.

Cheers!

reply

Two in one

Well only Mrs. (Miss?) Schulman can answer that, phatfuk.

No, you aren't ruining it for me. No worries there. :)

I'm glad you are getting to go to a "'70s" taping. I hope that you have a good time.

There's some information about attending a taping either on Topher's imdb.com board or the board for the show, I can't remember which one now.

reply

I wonder if any of you that have seen the film can recall the time of it. Maybe some things were cut. If that's the case we can always hope for an "Uncut" DVD....they do that all the time now a days. ;) Hang in there Carol.

I better get my book out and read it again, I'm a little sketchy on all the little details as well, it has been almost a year since we had our little book club...sheesh where did the time go.

reply

Hi CarolStarr,

Even though I don't remember the tatoos, I definately remember the breakfast. Reading one of the comments above, it sounds like the film might not have it. That's too bad because that was such a sweet part of the book. I'd like to read it again, but I think I'll wait until after I see the film. Since my memory of the book is a little foggy, it might make watching the film more enjoyable. I won't be anticipating too much.

We'll have to touch base again after we've both seen it. Hopefully we won't be disappointed.

Just saw it tonight and was very impressed with him.
