one of the worst movies I've ever seen

I've just seen this on tv... the script is horrible, the acting is pathetic...it's just awful
the movie itself is disturbing

Its certainly not dire but it's not the best version of the story, This version is influenced by Carol Reeds version too heavily (something the recent BBC version managed to distance itself from) especially some of the costumes and sets.

the worst thing about the film is the set painting - which is really awful and makes everything feel theatrical whereas the musical which was theatrical in idea was a much better design and technically superior.

I got to admit, I am a very big lover of the musical, so obviously I am biased in saying that, to me, Oliver isn't Oliver withour Oohm Pa Pa (sp?) and Who Will Buy. But i think this version portrays the deths of darkness Dickens goes into.

Maybe it's a little poor purposely to avoid people obsessing over it and causing very public outrages. If you ever realize this, be like Fagin if he could live again: "trade the gold because he's old" and be pristine as Christ about who he tells about it.
