one of the most hate filled message boards on imdb

a lot of self haters here.
look in the mirror, give yourself a hug and tell yourself, "its ok to be mexican and to like mexican things"

im surprised by the high rating here on imdb because of all the people who viewed this with the racial lens on. that includes the american critics.

this is a very good movie that deserves all the love it can get!

I don't get your point.. so it's okay to be mexican and not like mexican things, but it's not okay to dislike Matando Cabos?

reply

strawman. try again.

reply

No need to try again. You are not giving any argument at all. You think people hate this movie because of some race issue, but the fact is people hate this movie because it is plain bad.

Mexicans have a tendency to be extremely critical of their own culture. It can reach insane levels and borders on self hatred.

The message board here is fierce. That is not what I expected for just another comedy.

That's true, but in this case I really think people simply dislike this movie. Compare the reception this movie got with the reception of other mexican films like Amores Perros, Los Olvidados, El Laberinto del Fauno (co-produced with Spain), El Angel Exterminador, etc.

Personally, I used to LOVE Matando Cabos, but then I started watching older films like Ritchie's and Tarantino's and I realized Matando Cabos is just an attempt at making a film like those. Suddenly all of its flaws in dialogue and acting were more obvious for me. The story remains fun though.

I know not every Mexican film gets torn down, especially the classics that you listed. This film being a Tarantino/Ritchie knock off makes it an easy target.

This movie is just about entertainment. I can understand not liking it, but I don't think it warrants any extreme reaction. It is far from being a true representation of Mexican Cinema.

And even Tarantino started his career with Resevoir Dogs, which was essentially a knock-off.

Best way for me to sum it up: "America has its share of Quentin Tarantino wannabes; why shouldn’t Mexico?"- Eric Snider

Being mexican and after reading the whole board for this movie, I do wholeheartedly agree: this movie attracts too much hate. Or the other way around: there's too much hate for this movie.

Come on, it's a comedy, for God's sake! All the situations are over the top for that reason, it's idiotic and moronic to tell it couldn't happen because that's not the point! Truly every single people who has complained about this movie always talk about "Amores Perros" and "El Laberinto del Fauno" and it's totally wrong! Different genres, different type of cinema. Missing the whole point.

It's not a breaktrough, not anything super original, but it's a refreshing comedy that should be taked as that. And it's a great effort that should be bested by other filmmakers or anyone who wants to do different. I see a lot of people complaining and saying that this doesn't reflects what Mexican Cinema really is, and they're right: Mexican Cinema is plagued with half-hearted attempts at doing something interesting, awful writing, same actors doing the same old parts and same old results: uninspiring bombs that no one heard outside Mexico.

Obviously NOT all mexican movies are like that, but most of them get lost in the sea of bad ones. This is not the best movie there, but truly doesn't deserve the hate some people is fixated on delivering.
