Casting Wahlberg

I heard that he was a last minute replacement but, for some reason, I couldn't find out who he replaced. I finally found out that it was Ryan Gosling, who felt that at age 29 he was too young to play the dad.

Wahlberg just didn't carry this off that well, but I still love the movie.

reply

I didn't think he did a bad job. Though at the time I hadn't seen him in anything but the Departed.

Wahlberg was badly miscast, he’s fine in stuff like The Departed and Pain and Gain, but roles like this and he struggles...badly.

I think someone like Sam Rockwell or Josh Brolin would have been much better in Wahlbergs role.

reply

Nah, he was good. But it's hard to accept southies.

reply

I think Mark did a wonderful job as the grieving father.

reply

Sometimes people can't act because the role is too challenging. Other times it's because the role is too shitty to care about. This was such a thankless role.
