Best Movie Ever!

I saw this movie a week or two ago, and I loved it! (Obviously) I had to read the entire movie in the form of subtitles, but it was way worth it. It was funny, sweet, heartwarming, heartbreaking and sad (the end made me cry, and I don't cry at movies!). Anyway, I totally loved it and it's now my favorite movie. Anyone else love as much as I do?

reply

Oh yeah.
It's one of my favorites too. Are you from the US? It's good to know Israeli movies are popular amongst foriegners.

reply

Yes I'm American. I saw the movie at camp and I've tried to find it at home, but I haven't yet. Bummer.

It is playing for a week starting Friday October 22nd (2004) here in Portland Oregon.

I'm definately going to check it out.

reply

Really? That's awesome! Where? Which theatre(s)?

reply

you can rent it on netflix, along with a bunch of other popular israeli movies (not an advert, it's why i signed up) I couldn't find a selection of israeli films at any rental shop

reply

You can find it at Netflix.

It's so good to hear this movie is playing outside of Israel as well, I had no idea. I agree, it's a really sweet film, and the lead actor Oshri Cohen is excellent. Good to hear someone out of Israel likes it too!

I just rented this from my local Blockbuster... I'm in suburban Detroit where there are a lot of Jews, so maybe not all Blockbusters have this movie, but ours did. Great film! The third I've seen with Aya Koren (Steinovitz), she's wonderful.

I am from Thailand and I just watched this movie at Bangkok International Film Festival and it's amazing. I really had a good time.
For your information, it's not in any competition in the festival, and it's screened twice. I think maybe it's because its reputation from the first screening that in the second, which is also the last, screening today, the tickets were sold out. (I think there are no more than 10 movies in the festival whose tickets were sold out and this movie and Almodovar's Bad Education were the only 2 that were not in any competition or special screening.) The lead actor, Oshri Cohen, also came for Q&A session after the film and he, by his friendliness, talent and charm, has won the audience today. From about 20 movies I've seen in the festival, this one got the biggest applause and the nicest feedback from the crowd.
Congratulations to all people who involved in making this movie!!!

Well it was at my local Blockbuster as well; and I live across the river in the depressingly, and mostly homogeneous Portland, OR area. It also had Alila, which I liked very much too. It is always a nice surprise to find something actually interesting at Blockbuster! Le'chaim!

My husband and I just saw it tonight and had to get online and give it a *10*. We also think it's one of the best films we've seen, certainly the best we've ever seen together.

hi, i live in the US. i just saw this movie on dvd and loved it!
the script is just wonderful, the acting natural, humor abounds both subtle and obvious.
---spoiler follows----
i thought it almost perfect till the end, when they did the big melodramatic cake-baking going away stuff. i wish the film did not kill the granddad and just let schlomi strike out on his own quietly-- it would seem more natural, wouldn't it?

i rented it off netflix and just got through watching it... that film was amazing. i warmed up to every moment and character in that film. we need more films like that --- here in america, especially.

What a sensitive and warm movie. The main character's actor is surprisingly deep. The whole story was extremely well told.
I'm from Brazil and watched it on a cable channel. Unfortunately I don't don't think that'll ever be able to see it again.
I would like to know if the main actor did as well in other movies or if he excelled especially in this one.
