Never realized it before...

But Santiago's little brother, who seems like 12 years old, is in the bar with his grandmother at the end to watch the final game...

He's 12. In a bar.

I have taken my children to eat at pubs before...
Have you never seen a woman with a baby in the pub? The baby is under 21, duh!!!

reply

What are you? American?

reply

Yea but they are in LA witch you have to be at least 18 to get in and 21 to buy a drink, and they couldnt have gone to newcastle to watch the game because if you remember they are illegal immigrants so they cant travel out on a plane and then go back into the USA.

reply

actually NO you do not have to be 18 to go into a bar! You can go in with your parents, but you cannot drink. The boy was obviously with his guardian. And to go in a bar by yourself you have to be 21, NOT 18. I don't know who told you that.

reply

No I dont know who told you that but you can be 18 and go into a bar

reply

It really all depends on the particular bar in question specifications. Not all bars are 21 and over.

reply

Santiago:"How old do you have to be to get a beer?"
Other guy:"Eleven"

:D pretty funny

I've not seen the film nor do I intend to but I do know it is set in Newcastle and I am from Newcastle and it does not seem uncommon for someone hugely underage to be in a bar haha.

In fact, it would worry me somewhat if there wasn't atleast 5 or so underage drinkers in a northeast pub lol.

(I know the kids not drinking, cool ya beans)

Arsenal!

Who cares? Many movies have many mistakes. I don't think having a 12 yr old in a bar with his 90 somethin grandma takes away from the significance of the film. In fact, I think it adds to the film b showing just how proud and supportive they were of Santiago.

You may not see many Newcastle sports bars in LA but at least they got they channels on the TV right. The English broadcasts were on Sky Sports, and the American broadcast on Fox Soccer Channel. That specific attention to detail is what you should be analyzing. Not the fact the a boy is in a bar with his grandma. That could happen anywhere, anytime just on circumstance.

Someone already said it, but it's not true that you have to be 21 (or 18) to get in a bar in America. I just recently went into one with my sisters to hang out and play pool, and I'm 16. I'm sure some bars have a specific rule that no one underage can come in, but I doubt all of them do.

reply

lol'd at the bit where Santiagi asks how old you have to be to drink in Newcastle. "Eleven"

"Wait till they get a load of me!"

reply

He's allowed if he's with a parent or guardian.

reply

Its usually you can't be served alcohol to underage not banned from bars.Unless you're talking about some adult clubs where you can't be under 18.
