Pele
I don't understand how anyone can put Maradona before Pele. Maradona was a stellar player, but he was never Pele, there may never be another Pele. Maradona was close, but not quite.
1. Pele
2. Maradona
3. Ronaldo
4. Beckenbauer
5. Zidane
6. Raul (I just thought I'd put a 6th in there because I think Raul is great)
And I don't understand how anyone can put pele (who was only a striker who got excellent help from Didi, Vava, Garrincha, etc and who had to be carried out of the stadium twice) before Maradona (who won a world cup almost single-leggedly and almost another one and who would be stable in spite of brutal treatment from opponents, would be excellent with his body balance and who would MAKE the game).
Pele is not even on my top ten.
1. Zidane
2. Pele
3. Ronaldo
4. Ronaldinho
5. Figo

To all of you who posted Beckham as a top 5 player OF ALL TIME: Are you kidding me???
share I'm not kidding mate, David Beckham is one of the best athletes the world has ever seen, if now he is out of fitness that happens to every player in any sport, just remember Germany '06 England against Ecuador he was really wasted because of that wicked hot weather and anyway he scored a winner freekick from about 35 meters from goal, that's quality. And BTW can you recall a player (not a Man U player) that has won the treble (Premiership, FA Cup, Champions League) in the history of football, Becks played on his top fitness and gave it all to win those 3 trophies, he was heart and soul of that great Man U team on those days.
I hope he gets that Fitness back to help England win that Euro 2008.
and next time talking about a player is talking about his whole career...
what i cant do is like others that maybe post pele or maradona because of his history, i never saw a full time game of any of those players, and i have to see a whole game of those players to really judge them, thats why me favorite All Time Top 5 Players are. 1-Beckham 2-Zidane 3-Henry 4-Gerrard 5-Lampard and next five wannabes Top Players are 6-Rooney 7-C.Ronaldo 8-Ballack 9-Terry 10-Van Nistelroy
1. Pele (One of the few true sports icons with Ali and Jordon)
2. George Best (Before the booz, fame, and woman became his downfall)
3. Garrincha (The little bird that played for pure love of the game)
4. Johan Cryuff (Genius behind Hollands total football machine)
5. Franz Beckenbauer (Pure class on and off the field, plus defined a sweeper)
Greatest Goalie: Gordon Banks (Best save of all time 1970 World Cup vs Brazil)
Greatest Defender: Bobbie Moore (True World class player and person)
Best Free Kick Taker: Riveleno (Power and Curve before the special balls etc)
Most overrated player: David Beckham (Too one dimensional, and image based)
hahaha!
Well it's really hard but I'll have to go with the legends.
1. Zinedine Zidane
2. Pele
3. Maradona
4. Ronaldo (at his peak)
5. Thiery Henry
I really do think Kaka will be on that list one day :]
here is my favourtie players off all time, I've gone for 10 instead of 5...

3. Franz Beckenbauer
4 Paul Gascoigne
5. Bobby Moore
6. Gary Lineker
7 David Beckham
8. John Terry
9. Frank Lampard
10. James Milner
1. Pele

4ºRonaldinho
5ºZidane
1)maradona
2)ronaldinho(i'm a real madrid fan but still...)
3)pele
4)zidane
5)van basten
1) Maradona (a cheat and a drug user, but still the best)
2) Pele (what more can be said that people dont already know)
3) George Best (wasted his talent playing for N. Ireland, but his Man U days were magic)
4) Paul Gasgiogne (At one point the greatest player in the world, then he ruined it for himself)
5) Marco Van Basten (that goal for Holland in the finals of the Euro Champs! amazing)
"All I wanna do is do it"
How can you say Maradona was the best (or even top 5) when everyone knows he was a cheat.
share1 Pele and Maradona are tied for tied for the top spot for me
2 Cruyff
3 Garrincha
4 Beckenbauer
5 Van Basten/Best/Mathews/Zidane
cheat or no cheat, the guy was a phenomenon. so if thierry henry falls over when brushed against, and owen goes down in the box when touched, will this be what people remember? no. they will remember the good things that they did, and in maradona, they will always remember that he almost single handedly won the world come in 1986. i mean, can you name another player from the argentina national team that year? me neither...
"All I wanna do is do it"
yeah im with Johnmotter
1. Beckham
2. " "
3. " "
4. " "
5. " "
you are a girl right? thats the only reason why you would choose david beckham 5 times... for his looks. he was a good player in his time, but not exactly in the same league as anyone else on the lists on this thread. sorry.
"All I wanna do is do it"
Jorge Valdano, Oscar Ruggieri, Jorge Burruchaga, Jose Luis Brown, but you are 100% right, he won the damn thing on his own, and almost did it again in 1990
shareMe can - Burruchaaga. :-)
Well, mate, I agree - cheat (which he himself claimed, no one could prove) or drugs (no drug can produce a Maradona) - he had a magic about him - excellent balance at that.
Every one knows he cheated BECAUSE he said so. Even today, no camera can prove he cheated.
