How much violence was there in Miami prior to Griselda?

The documentary seems to just dive right into the murders without giving much background to the previous mood and tempo of the city. All of a sudden there is a gangland style murder of 2 individuals who were driving a truck that was bulletproof and full of weapons. Were there no or very few drug related murders prior to that happening? Did Griselda just come in and stir up a hornet's nest with her sociopath murdering or were turf wars just starting to happen and Griselda just happened to be the right person at the right time?

I plan on watching Cocaine Cowboys 2 within the next week.

In truth, it all happened so fast..the cocaine rage and the explosion of violence was all early 80's. You notice Griselda was arrested in mid 1985 and that was about the end of it.
