Was the finale twist deliberate?

I have to admit that I only watch a few episodes and I knew it got cancelled by NBC before it aired here in the UK so when the final episode came I made it my purpose to watch the full episode but the last five minutes was so unpredictable for Rob Lowe character to kill the Kyle Chandler who I thought was the evil one. If the series had a full season order from NBC would that story be part of Season One finale and the rest of the series would conjecture Rob Lowe character leading a duplicate life predenting to be good but turns out to be the antichrist?!.

No!! Frpom what I heard, when the show was cancelled the writers were irritated (no shock there). Anyway, to stick it to the people who'd axed them they chaged the last episode so that Rob Lowe was the bad guy.

I saw it as a deliberate decision by the producers - once they knew the show had been cancelled.

It gave Rob Lowe a chance to showcase both sides of his acting talent - that he can convincingly play an immoral sociopath as well as the altruistic good guy. Then again, those of us who have followed his career already knew this. Masquerade and Bad Influence anyone?

Also loved watched Kyle Chandler in something else. A far cry from his Gary Hobson role from Early Edition.

Final episode was excellent, I doubt I'll ever forget that final line.. "there's been another accident..". Genius.

Big shame the show wasn't allowed to fulfill it's potential, plus I feel Robert Picardo could have had a bigger role. Rob Lowe excellent as always though.

Rob Lowe's 5/8/2014 interview on NPR's "Wait, wait; Don't tell me" confirms matthewparry response. Upon learrning the cancellation, decides why not go on a limb.
