lesbians??

marcy and heather were lesbians or not? is not that i am acting like a ignorant, is just that it saids that this movie have some sexual references, so i dont understand what thats mean. In the movie i didnt found nothing sexual or anything like it

reply

ya, i also hav the same ques . it has a "lost & delirious" theme in it. but they dont do anything. i think they wanted to keep it under "R"

reply

Uh, it IS rated R.

The whole movie had subtle, covert sexual undertones. I don't think there was meant to be an explicitely "sexual" relationship between the two girls however, just closeness.

You've got to remember, there were a lot of "mommy" and "daddy" issues going on here, with a school full of girls in the middle of nowhere.
I doubt they meant it in a way of lesbianism.

well lucky mckee loves lesbians!!!!

I didn't get anything lesbian about it. I think they were just becoming close friends, but I didn't get anything sexual about it. At first I think Heather was just a loner who didn't seem to be interested in even talking with Marcy, but then they became friends. She was just happy to have found a friend. That's why she got so mad and broke Marcy's radio when she thought she betrayed her. It wasn't due to sexual jealousy, it was just that she felt bad for opening herself up to another person when she seemed to be a loner. I think they were becoming so close becase they were each one of the three girls. Heather dreamed of the blonde girl before she even met her and she was the other of the three. I think if in an R rated film they would have wanted real sexual overtones between the girls, they would have put them in. But if you're referring to the slow motion, video sequence, it seemed to me about as lesbian as an after school special. At least that's what I thought about it. If people think they were lesbians that's OK too, I just didn't think that.

If you watch it again, catch the edgy interplay between Rachel McNicol (sp?) and Heather. Their fighting could be a substitute or symbol for intercourse. I just DVR'ed the movie, and watching parts of it again, I am struck by how intensely the blonde feels toward Heather.

reply

I wondered if they were supposed to be lesbians or not as well but I think that was the point because they made some subtle but also some very obvious attempts to make you wonder...clearly, people actually calling them lesbians was one but also when they were having their close scenes you'd hear Lesley Gore music who is a lesbian singer...it's hard to say really

reply

Exactly, there is a much more sexual tension between Heather and Samantha than with her and Marcy.

I think it's actually done in an ambiguous way so it can be taken however you wish to.

Agreed.

I remember watching this montage in the movie where Marcy is singing and Heather is watching her, sort of spellbound, like she has a crush on her, I dont know...but that whole montage made me think that the two were lesbian.

I guess with the whole "firecrotch" thing they needed an R rating.

reply

I think they were referring to when Samantha said to Heather your girlfriend has a really pretty singing voice when they were outside the door where Marcy was practicing

reply

i think whenever there is a setting like this in an all girls school the lesbian overtones are present...whether intentional or not.

reply

There's an extended director's cut in which Heather, Marcy and Samantha have a threesome.

Ok, I just made that up.

WOW! OKay! That would be something! Yeah um weird. yeah i noticed that the crazy blonde mean girl is so nagging at Heather. that i am thinking she has some "feelings" for Heather. Maybe she threw the milk at Marcy because she wanted Heather for herself. "You know what I mean." At that scene between Heather and the crazy blonde girl. where the blonde girl was up on Heather's face. I swear that they would start making out or something. But it didn't happen they jsut fight.

reply

Yes, the sexual tension in this film is always under the surface – and sometimes a bit above that surface. I also felt it with the school's administrators. This is a standard pattern in films about girls' schools. I wonder if it's a standard pattern in real-life girls' schools?

reply

Of course it isn't.

It's better to rest in the warm body of a friend, than in a cold hole in the ground.

reply

Aw, shucks.

reply

she threw the milk at Marcy to keep her from drinking it. just like she "accidently" spilled it the first time. blonde chick is ultimately the hero of this movie. without her trying to push Marcy away by pretending to be a bully and then explaining to her whats actually going on its game over. Marcy drinks her milk and becomes tree food with the rest of them.
