The hat

When they first introduce Renee Zellweger's character there is a lot of banter between her and her co-workers about her feathered hat. She even goes so far as to explain it's worth more than their wages. Then she takes the hat off in her bosses office and after being given her assignment, promptly walks out leaving her expensive hat behind. I guess her character, the director and the props department didn't really care about that hat as much as they originally thought they did.
Anyone else catch that?

I did, and thought that her boss was going to do something with it when she left his office, but if he did, those actions got left on the cutting room floor. We didn't see it again in the movie.

As soon as she tossed it on the couch, I said to my husband "Oh no, somebody's going to end up sitting on it." LOL

You could be right. I'm no milliner. But as you say yourself, Lexie banters with the best of them in this movie and we see, a lot of her conversations are pure oneupsmanship. The hat may have been really "expensive", but it may have also been a snaffled at a bargain basement sale, knowing Lexie.🐭
