Was Carter Rutherford (semi-)based on Red Grange (of Illinois, and Chicago Bears)?
I haven't had a chance to buy or rent this so I forget where his character is from (if stated) and where they play their games.
He goes to Princeton but his agent-promoter is based on C.C. Pyle, who got Grange to play for the Bears
