Absolutely nothing to do with the book

I just saw Story of the Eye after having bought it off Diabolik, and have to say that I'm pretty dissappointed. I figured it wouldn't follow the book very closely, but I thought there would at least be some connection. Nope. The sex scenes don't even go in the weird places that Bataille does - compared to the book, all the oral sex here is pretty dull. 80 minutes of people wandering around, finding other people, and having sex. No bullfighting. No priest. No eyeball cut out.

Shucks.

WTF. I’m a huge fan of Bataille. I have read “Story of the Eye” multiple times. This is one of those films that I have refused to see. But after reading this comment it almost sounds as though it is so different from the book that it would be safe for me to watch without getting totally pissed off at its mishandling of the story. Too bad it sounds like it is a crappy film, regardless.

Is it that bad, as a stand-alone work? And no, I’m not one to be deterred by the ‘pornographic’element.

It’s really lame, though, to use the name of a book/author or whatever and then not even attempt to stay even half-ass true to it.
