Which scene touched you the most?

For me, it was the scene when they marched the Cairo 52 into the courthouse with a huge crowd gathered around. I remember the words of one of them saying "you'd think Queen Elizabeth was coming to visit". But the words that rang oh so true were "everyone came to see the perverts get what was coming to them".

I know this isnt' the worst part of the film (next to the South American mother who walked in a gay protest and came home to find her boy had been tortured) but perhaps it's because I'm Egyptian and I almost recognized that scene in the courtroom that I felt so much anger well up inside at the whole spectacle! I know that crowd. They're all sexually repressed, hypocritical, ignorant, horny, bored and having nothing to do with their lives except watch the demise of others - especially with a sensational sex scandal! It must have made their f^@$ing day!

I've been away from Egypt for 10 years now so I only heard of the Queen Boat incident in passing when it happened. I didn't realize - until I saw this film - that it was so high-profile, that they got hard labor sentences for it, and that MOST OF ALL I didn't see that there were any laws broken. I mean, I know they got them on "habitual debauchery" whatever that is. But in fact, what they raided was not really an orgy or anything. It was just a party!

Watching this movie made me want to stay away from Egypt for many many more years. I'm straight - but I see this as a threat to me too. When you have a "morality police" looking for blood, anything you do can be perceived as "debauchery" from wearing short skirts to smoking.

Just some background about Egypt: The government and media are always looking for the next big thing to talk about and distract people from their dreary lives and the repression they live under. In the 80s it was all about drugs and a heroin problem. In the early 90s, they even ventured once or twice into the arrest of "satan-worshippers" which is total BS. None of us had ever heard of such nonsense in reality. Then it was the gays. Who knows what's next? Gays are the easiest targets and people love a sex scandal!
