not capote vs infamous? jones vs hoffman

people keep asking what movie they liked better on both movie blog sites, that could be debated forever, question should be who put on better performance? considering hoffman won best acting oscar? i think hoffman one of the best actors in hollywood! but he didnt come close to jones performance!! and for jones not even to be nominated?? i can see nominating a actor playing same role as year before winner, would be kinda tough? but at least nominate him? he was incredible!! way better then hoffman! obvisoully the competition was tougher in 2006 also (crash winning best movie in 2005, clears that up quick!) maybe ledger?, but seems you gotta act gay or reterded to win an oscar?? but either way jones was far better performance! movie? both were good! i like "infamous" better also! but dont see how can be an argument on who acted better, and how the academy didnt see that? dont suprise me 1 bit!! bunch of clueless old farts! i respect "imd" opinion 10 times more then those ididots!

Yes For me it was Toby Jones all the way! I had never seen him in anything before so just completely accepted that I was watching Trueman Capote on screen. Very compelling.

Where as with Phillip Seymour Hoffman (whom I consider to be a great actor) I just could not get away from the fact that I was watching Phillip Seymour Hoffman playing the part of Capote. The performance felt contrived.

Toby Jones should have got the Oscar. He was brilliant.

exactly!! toby jones (i wasnt sure if it was a women at first??) i seen him once in "elizabeth 1" the mini series with jermey irons and hellen mirren?, but thats only time? but ya, you said it percectly! excpect that from hoffman? but jones? totally suprised me!! and not to be at least nominated?? same role a year later or not? should have been nominated! and daniel craig was brilliant also! wouldnt even think he would take a role like that? both guys were brilliant!!

Yep, Toby Jones was far more authentic.

To me, it felt like Jones was doing an impression, whereas Hoffman gave a more richly nuanced performance. Contrast with Jones as Hitchcock, giving a much stronger performance than Tony Hopkins's strained impersonation. Jones is definitely a better physical match for Capote, no question, but Hoffman embodied the character more fully.

For me it's simple. With Capote I was watching Truman Capote, at no point I saw PSH. In Infamous I watched Toby Jones who was impersonating Truman Capote. Both actor mastered that unique Capote's voice but one of them did more, for a moment he simply was Truman, like a sort of possession. The other did his best but was never really Truman.
