Doesn't make sense (spoiler)

Watching this series again for the umpteenth time, and tonight I'm up to Season 5 Episode 6.

The previous 'griftees' plan was to take the profit from the convincer and go, rather than then invest more as the hustlers expected. The guy planning it said he wanted to get back the half million he had previously lost, plus a million. The other three people, he said, could split the rest.

But if the plan was to walk away with just the £1m bait, how would that work?

I think I need to get a life quite soon.

I'm watching the series again and like you watching the series again probably for the 10th time now :').

There is £1 million bait... Carlton and Harry plan to take their half of that and let the others split the other £500,000.

Hope that answers the question :)

I thought Carlton said he wanted back his original half million plus a million, which is why it didn't make sense to me.

I probably misheard. Oh well, doubtless I'll be watching it again in a couple of years, so I'll pay more attention next time!

Carlton wants to take them for a million pound. Double what the gang took from him.

Carlton has raised a million and wants the same from the other three making 4 million.

They'll use the million from Carlton as bait, the gang will double it and Carlton will walk away.

Once Carlton recoups his million + the half million the gang stole from Carlton then Carltons team divides the rest among themselves.

Now I'm confused ^_^.

Sorry mate, but I tend to have that effect on people!

Have a lie down in a darkened room, that's what I'm gonna do.

Not sure why I got confused last night. In the bag there'll be two million. 1 million from the Hustle gang and 1 million from Carlton.

Carlton recoups his million + the half a million from the 1 million convincer and he'll give the other half milli to his "investors".

reply

But wouldn't that mean he personally is only getting his own stake money back, plus what he was conned out of in the first place? So apart from getting his money back, he hasn't got one up on the gang.

reply

He has conned the con artists.

reply

The way I interpreted it, he wanted to take the Hustle team for £1m, which as you pointed out was twice what they conned him out of. However, the act of taking them for £1m doesn't mean he got to keep all £1m. He needed help to make it a big enough pot to tempt the Hustle team.

Therefore he had to split the £1m profit with the others, but being the greedy tool he is he wanted half because it was his plan, with the other half to be split 3 ways. If they had been genuine conees they might have argued that wasn't fair but we know they weren't so it's all suspense of disbelief.

Had he won he'd have gotten his £1/2m back plus the pleasure of having conned them for £1m. This was to prove he was (in his own words) "twice as clever as them".
