*lol* An abomination unto Tolkien

I seriously have never seen so many stupid people amassed in ONE single documentary. I love LotR; I think Jackson made a great job translating the books onto the silver screen.
What I need to know is an answer to the question why the makers of this documentary picked the bottom of the barrel of Tolkien-fandom to compose their little feature. Every time an interview partner is announced as "Ringer", you can be sure you get zero-relevance out of their musings. The whole affair is rather embarrassing.
Everybody else made a competent impression. It was nice to finally see Pratchett doing an interview, the other contributors were worth being watched, too.
But hell, everything else was awful.

In all fairness, I think the point of this documentary was to illustrate how Tolkien's work has been accepted by both elitest literary circles and a wider popular culture. I think by showing us the "bottom of the barrel" as you put it, we see the universal appeal of Tolkien's work. I'm sure Brian Sibley has much to offer from the "top of the barrel."

I don't think it was awful; I think the purpose was to show how Tolkien relates to regular people. It felt like they were talking about my family. True, there were some interesting folks, but no family picture is complete without them.
