I've been working on a screenplay (my second) for a week, and only now did I just find out that this movie basically encompasses the same plot (struggling actor turns to method acting to portray serial killer, becomes lost in the character and starts committing murders). Guess it's back to the drawing board. Whatsmore, I was writing the script under the same title as this movie! Damn, I really should have checked before starting...

There you will see that it did not that this premise of a movie has been done a million times in a million different way. If you can present your screenplay in a unique original way then it doesn't matter that it has the same name or that the main character is a method actor who becomes so involved in his role of method acting that he becomes crazed and starts killing.
Actually if you can pull it off then you will have accomplished a great deal. don't give it up quite yet and you'll really learn and grow as you write it.
