Apologies to one and all, I wrote out this long post yesterday or the day before (I forget) but then completely lost it. I'm pretty sure I pressed 'post' and not 'preview' but that hardly helps as I purged my web history yesterday.

Anyhow, I will try again when I get the time, meanwhile, please discuss amongst yourselves what you thought of the film.

Sorry to all. I did not find the energy to re-watch a tragedy of which I do not even like in the versions directed by Roman Polanski (1971) or Orson Welles (1948).

I hugely like the powerful ingenious version directed by Akira Kurosawa "Throne of Blood (1957)". But Maqbool is nothing like "Throne of Blood". To me Maqbool feels as lifeless and artificial as the Polanski and Welles versions. To be honest, to me faithful Maqbool feels far weaker than these two other versions that are also faithful to the original.

In contrast to Maqbool Omkara exudes for me more power and individuality, for these qualities I like Omkara better, though as Shakespeare play I dislike Othello far more than Macbeth.

And as a gangster film Maqbool doesn't work for me as well. I definitely prefer the gangster films Company or Satya, even Sarkar.
