should have been sent to the Oscars.....

pity that Indians themselves didnt promote this movie enough, it would have been definitely nominated for best foreign movie...

such a classic movie

reply

totally agreed.....one of my favorite movies, its sad how a guy like Irfan Khan doesnt even get the recognition he deserves. He should hv gotten the best actor award ahead of SRKs role in swades or veer zaara or Main Hoon Na or Saif Ali khan getting national award for HUm TUm....give me a break...

reply

Its all about the marketing... Wouldn be surprised if it din make money in india either.. Seriously good movies hav been ignored for long now... What happend to the "word of mouth"? All about item numbers now...

As for the oscars, dunno... The movie maybe excellent.. bt the song n dance, however relevant it maybe in the context, is stil considered a big turn off in hollywood...
Plus, if a movie like BLACK wasn sent to the oscars, somethings seriously wrong with the system...

reply

Why would they send BLACK to the Oscars? To confirm the fact that most Hindi filmmakers don't come up with original ideas and COPY old Hollywood movies?

They should've send RAINCOAT last year.

reply

nah, it was coz they couldn't...apparently remakes of english works aren't allowed in the oscars, that's why...

reply

yeah but apparently english remakes of films which were originally in other languages isn't an issue at all... I mean, I loved The Departed, but such hyprocrisy from the academy.... Honestly

reply

It irks me whenever "The Departed" is brought as an argument for shameless Hollywood rip-offs.

The difference is Martin Scorcese acknowledges that "The Departed" is a remake and shows great reverence toward "Infernal Affairs." Whereas a hack like Sanjay Leela Bhansali rips off other stories and directors claims the ideas are originally his while spending millions into ridiculously lavish and gratuitous sets to fool audiences into overlooking his incompetent direction.

reply

MAQBOOL was an adaptation, not a remake.

reply

I think 'Maqbool' or 'Meenaxi' should have been sent to the Oscars.
