One thing nobody seems to understand...

Is that deep blue doesn't know how to play chess. Yes, it is a well programmed machine, but it doesnt have any understanding of chess. It's essentially a giant calculator, like any computer.
Many people seem to think that deep blue's victory is some kind of blow to the human race. It's not. Computers still cannot think, no matter how well they are programmed.
While there do exsist computer programs that 'learn', computers will never surpass human beings until they develop understanding and self-awareness.

True, it didnt prove anything, as Kasparov would learn and find a way to beat it playing a different style. As ive said before in many posts, these things are all fixed for entertainment these days. Publicity and more publicity was the aim. Not for kasparov to win.

Good post. It was always going to be about human intervention because without human intervention there would be no computer or its maintenance after game 1. lol

What would you add?

not to mention Kasparov didn't get to see any of the Deep Blues games gong in, while the Computer could have easily had all Kasparovs games stored in memory.

Yes, this. What's more, they never will. Intelligence is an emergent property of a complex biological organ we little understand, and by the time we do, it will be far easier and more worthwhile to create artificial biologicals than to attempt to duplicate the brain's architecture in machines. It would be a purely academic question many thousands of years of research away.
