I Blew It

I'm kicking myself here. This movie primered in Toronto at the film festival and I missed it. Now who knows when this movie will be available. Does it need a distributor still? Does it need a distributor to be released on video or in theatres? How does this distributor crap work? Is there enough hype for this film that it will get a distributor? Is it possible for this film to be shown at film festivals and never be seen again because they can't find a distributor?

To answer two of your questions:

Yes, a film generally needs a distributor in order to be shown in theaters (outside of a festival) or on video. Occasionally a producer will put up the money for a film to screen without a distribution deal, but this is unusual.

Yes, it's possible that the film could never be seen again after showing at festivals. However, because this film is a) in English, b) apparently a good romantic movie, and c) has shown at Sundance, I think it's more likely that it will at least get some video distribution eventually.

I caught the film this past Saturday at the Boston Film Festival. Director Weinstock mentioned the film would be released sometime in November. The film seems to have obtained a distributor, "Magic Lamp."

As of this moment I've got the DVD in my computer... It has been distributed, so no worries. I rented it at a movie store, so just keep your eyes open. : )

I just watched it on Showtime last night. No need to rent it if you are a subscriber. I am sure they will play it 10 more times before the month is out.
