I was watching some clips of her on Youtube in this movie and I don't understand what happens to her character, so could someone explain it? I really don't want to see the movie, but I am curious. I think her character's name is Laura.

This is not a typical "romcom", there is some good, realistic acting, and a subplot of the two sisters (Jamie and Laura) and their father dealing with the suicide of their mother/wife, that in several scenes makes this film more of a drama than a comedy. I urge you to give this film a try and watch it.
That said, here is Emily Deschanel's (Laura's) plot line (heavy spoilers follow):
Jamie has a crush on her old college poetry teacher (Naveen Andrews) and begins to date him. Laura thinks she's moving too fast.
Laura's husband has an affair with Laura's father's secretary; he gets the secretary pregnant. Laura finds out and divorces him.
Jamie starts to have feelings for a different man, named Mick.
Jamie breaks up with her former teacher (John).
Jamie pursues a relationship with Mick, while John and Laura, unbeknownst to Jamie, start seeing each other.
Jamie and Mick break up, and shortly after this, in a VERY awkward moment, Jamie discovers her sister Laura is sleeping with her former boyfriend John.
Jamie accepts this, starts to see Mick again, and she and Laura are on friendly terms again.
Sorry I've told you all this mostly from Jamie's perspective, but that is actually who the movie is about; Emily Deschanel's character is a supporting role in this film.
Anyhow, give this film a shot-- I think you'll like it!
