Anyone else thing this was an awesome movie?

I don't understand the poor reviews for this film. One of the guys who commented said Mimi was Sal's girlfriend then claimed the movie to be "confusing". How absurd.

I love elena anaya is this film, apart from being beautiful and having those big brown eyes she gives a great performance. It's not amateurish at all... Andrew Lee Potts gave a solid performance as the affable Abe.

Anyhow, brilliant movie!

Anyone can choose to criticise anything, if they have the (closed) mind to do so.

Yes this film is simple in terms of storyline telling, but the film if substantiated by a great cast - who portray a broad spectrum of bizarre characters.

The scenes which are longer - are longer for good reason!
Observation is strictly that – OBSERVATIONAL!

I think the director has done a terrific job in creating this unique character driven film.

This is one of the few movies I've watched that made me go "why am I even bothering sitting through this?" The characters were awful, Billy Zane's Virgil especially. The plot wasn't confusing, it was just boring.

I respect the fact that other people find this film fascinating or good, but I can't agree with it. The movie tried very hard to be stylish, cool and at times even funny, but to me it failed on every account.

I wouldn't pay the high price of a cinema ticket to go and watch this movie because nowdays it's only worth to pay for huge productions (good ones) that need the wide screen for the effects-atmosphere.
But I would recommend it for rental.
I agree that this wasn't Billy Zane's best moment but the character was fine.He tried but he just didn't get too much into it. And the other crappy character was Abe himself AND the actor (could do with a much better cast for him) but other than that the film was nice and cute.
Maybe it's not for a lot of people because it has a peculiar screenplay like the Dennis Potter-style musical shot(s?) but it definitely doesn't deserve 10% of the votes to be 1!
And I disagree with you keme, you could call it confusing, but boring? All this mix up situations you call boring? You don't like it? Or maybe you weren't in the mood for such a film, fine, no problem but "boring" doesn't describe it.

PS. Lately I'm beginning to get disappointed with IMDB ratings. Yahoo movies starts to earn my respect.

I kind of thought this was kind of bad but yeah, come on. It wasn't THAT bad.

Oh come on...you didn't think the whole strip club "who makes windows that don't *beep* open" scene a little funny? I thought Oldman's character was just funny because of how out of it he was.

Where are you and HOW did you see this movie?
I'm in the US and everywhere I turn this movie is listed as "In Production"..so I called Gary Oldman's rep and he confirmed it...."In Production" with no release date set.

Dead Fish has been released on DVD well in Finland it has - you might be able to find it on e-bay.

I've seen it..yeah!
I agree with you. It was a bit campy and best not to take too seriously..and (to say the obvious) Gary Oldman was awesome! I liked that girlfriend's accent but I would have dumped the American and taken the rose!

Did anyone catch the Dracul joke? I took it as a nod to Gary.

And my favorite line: ...It's a British thing!

reply

Your not the only one that would have taken that rose and dumped the boyfriend.

What was the Dracula joke - I must have missed it - this means that i'll have to watch the film again.

My fav line is What's this James *beep* Bond

reply

My heart just BROKE when she didn't take the rose. I wanted to KILL HER!!!
And when she slapped him when he was finger feeding her grapes! Talk about not a decent person!

I don't have a favorite line, but as far as part goes, the part where they knock on his head was AWESOME!!

Oh she's always breaking people's hearts. In "In the land of Women" she broke Adam Brody's heart and then like danced on it.

Gary was priceless. I love the whole strip club scene...I must have watched him scream, "Who makes windows that don't *beep* open" a million times. Oh my god and the singing bondage scene...loved it.

I was so glad it was uploaded on youtube and i could watch it whenever. I can't find it on ebay or anywhere.
