what does it mean when they say major all the time?

its hard to say what it really means so I'll give you an example:
"exciting major" means "very exciting." I guess you could say it means very, but they just say it after instead of before. Similarly, "minor" means it is only slightly important.

It's sort of like in other languages (like Spanish, say) when the descriptive word goes after. Like the adjective goes after the noun.
Me gusta la blusa roja. (I like the red blouse, but litterally it would be I like the blouse red.)

It's just about placement of the descriptives. Major means a lot, very, much, etc. Minor means a little, few, etc...
